My buddy has foot damage and can't rock backwards to engage reverse.
Welded a 1/2" pipe union and he screws in a lenght so that he hand operates the fwd/rev.
Works for him.

Does your buddy have any pictures of this ?

* Rite ON = Like I said .

Anybody that don't like a rocker foot pedal just don't know how to apreciate them.
Either that or they haven't learned how to hate 2 pedals.

Thats why you should head on down to your Green dealer and pick up a tractor with NO linkage to adjust and the best pedal arrangement on the market... eHydro! Best of all worlds.
Seriously speaking, what absouletly killed the Kubota for me was the pedals...I can not stand that rocker pedal. I'd rather do my work around the house with an old fasioned manual shovel & rake then a tractor equipped with a rocker pedal.

I think I would still use the Kubota before a shovel :D but I agree that the Kubota rocker pedal is poorly designed. Reasons:

1. You have to lift your leg to change from heel to toe (fwd, rev) - very tiring
2. Often your boot heel is caught under the rev pedal, complicating #1
3. Not the HST pedals fault... but the brake is on the same side as the fwd/rev - you have to sit side-saddle if you need to use the brake

I know that some say to keep your foot on the pedal and learn to rock it rather than lift your leg but this is just not comfortable and does not work for me and others who have worked with it.

My side-by-side Montana is much easier to use. Plus the brake is on the LEFT (no clutch) so you can use both if necessary.

What about a strap or stirrup over the forward pedal that would allow you to pull up with your toe to engage reverse? Don't know if it would improve your situation, but would certainly be simpler than changing to dual pedals.

For that matter how about a pedal to the right of the forward pedal that just pushes up on it through a simple see-saw mechanism?

A hand shifter for the HST would be easy to make. a 3/4 pipe welded to a narrow flat plate, and bolted to the pedal, with a nice hand grip on the top. You know, 8 ball, skull, girlie knob, something to hold on to, etc

Don't like the stirrup idea especially if someone has foot/leg pain or other problems.

I do like the pivoting see-saw idea, provided there's enough room on the platform, that might be the best.

This is not my tractor, but one of the same model with modified pedals. I laugh everytime I see this picture. Love it!:D

Sorry, no pics. This is on a B7100 and the peddle is steel.

A pipe threaded female (probably a union) was simply tack welded onto the side of the rocker with the top flush so as to not interfere with normal foot usage.

While pipe can be used he generally has a short broom stick that is threaded to match.

I love it! Old school hot boat foot throttles! And it's immediately obvious which pedal selects which direction!

Those are great, now he just needs an old fashioned foot dimmer switch with the tiny barefoot pedal to complete the modification.

My Deere 4200 has the left/right hydro trans pedal arrangement and i like it. My little Deere L130 lawn tractor has the rocker hydro pedals and I really dislike it. It's hard to control reverse speed with it.
