Hydro Question

Is there a spring tension adjustment on the pedal to set it to a neutral position when you take your foot off the pedal or am I getting off base with my conclusion. Does each manufacturer do something different to dampen the pedal return? Or are dampened at all?

Steve . I can't answer your question as directly as you'd like . All I can say that on my machine the pedal acts as if if has some sort of dampenining mechanism . That's with the motor on or off . If you push it forward ,or back and let it go abruptly or not it moves at the same speed . I'm sure that others will be able to explain the reasoning behind it . I can't /forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif I'm sure that other manufacturers have a different way to operate their HST 's . But to be honest I can't address thier methods . I'm only talking about mine (L3130 ) . Heck , it may be different on other models /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif John

I agree with what the others have already stated that the tractor will not stop so abruptly that you will be "lurged" from the tractor. The actual stopping effect will depend on how fast you are going, the traction at the tires and the hydro pedal response.

The advantage that I have not yet read is the instant response you will be able to impart with the HST to control the situation. As you go over the "stump" you can ease off the HST to soften the drop on the other side. This action will come natually as you use the HST.

Try the HST response on the tractors you are interested in. I think you will find that you won't be bucked off the tractor or loose control if your foot slips off the pedal.

Steve, any chance you can just go out and try it out. It will eliminate any fears you have. In high range coming to a complete stop by letting off the pedal(s) should not skid, lurch or throw you, you should quickly slow down under complete control. Go to a dealer and try it. Try the various brands in all ranges, at various RPM's. Mash down on the pedal(s), it's also a great way to test/compare the various manufactuer's HST.

Great advice to go try some out. We had a 10 year old JD755 hydro and it stopped very quick, too quick for my liking when running in high range. Perhaps that was ajdustable, I never checked as we got used to it finally.

The Mitsubishi built 15 series Mahindra's that we now sell have a damper under the step plate, it looks like a little shock absorber. It makes a real nice, non-abrupt stop. I suspect that all of the newer hydros have a damper of some fashion.
