Hydro Saw

We had a microburst blow through a few weeks ago. I'm minus about 6 large trees now. There was one large dead elm that took a lighting strike, broke into 2 and the top half landing on some utility poles.

The electric company sent out a huge cherry picker truck. In the lift bucket, there were some hydro remotes that the operator connected what appeared to be about a 10" chain saw on a 6 foot pole. This was the first time I saw a hydraulically operated saw.

If any of you have ever hand split elm before, you would really appreciate what this saw did to this tree. He went through what ended up being about 3/4 of a chord of dead elm, from his perch, like it was a Stihl saw through Ben & Jerry's Rocky Road.

Anyone else ever seen these saws? Better still, can they/are they being run from a CUT .... say a B series Kubota?

The only other place I have seen hydro type saws are in conjunction with cutting concrete and stuff like that. I have used a saw made by stanley check out stanleyworks.com they don't have much but a dealer list but they might be able to help.

It could have also been a pneaumatic saw. There are several brands of pneaumatic saws on the market also.

They are available in both Hydro and pneumatic. You could pretty much buy a loader for what the hydro ones cost, and the pneumatics ain't a whole lot cheaper.
The sad part is most of the cost is because of insulation and manufacturer's insurance, due to the use they'll be put to.
Every so often, a few turn up on Epay, used, or stolen.
