Hydro stat transmission whine

The fluid is fine I top it up last fall with JD Hy guard when I change the filter not sure what type was in there but it didn't make any difference with the whining which for me seems a little to loud . and by the way I found why I lost the pressure to the FEL the key from the coupling driving the pump sheard off. FYI the FEL on this tractor does not get its pressure from the transmission but it dose drive the hydraulic pump, I know very confusing . (This tractor is a mutt lol has kubota orange rear rims ,a very well made custom loader and a Honda 20hp motor
:confused2:

Is this on a JD 300?
What model of transmission is that?
Is it a Tuff Torq?
The last I knew the recommended fluid for those was 20W-50 motor oil.

The more mass there is the better stuff dampens sound, especially higher frequency sound. Therefore the bigger & heavier the tractor the less whine you will hear, all things being equal. Things aren't always equal though so it's not always the case.

My L4060 is a bit quieter than my L3200 was. But both whine(d) a bit.

If you run a HST in to high of a range the relief valve will kick in & squeal a lot more than it would otherwise.

Thats good, but if it is a Tuff Torq which I think it is when I drained and refilled my lawn mowers transmission I used a synthetic 20W-50 as per Tuff Torqs web site and it made quite a difference in the noise and performance.

Initially my 6530, with hydro steering and shuttle gear shifter ran really quiet.....not bothersome and the loader ran up and down at a good rate. 13 years now on that tractor and I started getting a progressively louder whine and the loader slowly started operating slower for a couple of clues.

In short, the pipe from the main sump that feeds the main and steering pumps through a Neoprene rubber adapter in the shape of an alphabet capital letter "F" with one input and 2 outputs had cracked at the interface to the pumps and was letting air and fluid into the pump. Replaced the adapter hose and performance and noise went back to new condition. I was puzzled at first thinking it was time to change the TDH fluid or it was letting me down but I had changed it last year and checking, it was clean.

I have a JD L110 that has rolled the hour meter. It has an appropriately sized TT transaxle for that 42" machine. Initially it was filled with 10w-30 from the factory. I was running in mud one day and on coming out decided to clean up the tires so I started doing loops where I'd turn hard in both directions with the pedal on the metal. Trashed the transaxle. Took it apart and ordered new parts from TT. Nice folks, great service and free Gimmie Cap in box with needed parts. Also in the box was a note saying to up the refill with 10w-40 full syn.......that well over 15 years ago......might be even thicker recommendation today.

FF to 2016, Ferris Z700, 61", transaxle oil is 20W-50 full syn. There is a message there!
