I have a friend who purchased a hydro station near Prague in 1990 or so. I finally got around to see it and take some pictures.

He is rebuilding and fixing it ever since.

To keep the screen clean, this programable robot works on it two or three times a day.

There are two Francis turbines and two Kaplan's turbines (the blue ones) I was pretty sure I took better picture but I cant find it.
The hydrostation makes 275KW.

The whole business is just dream for me. Be your own boss and keep it running with a mixture of electrical, mechanical and civil engineering.

Anyway, they had some issues with the transfer case and this is how it was finally solved. Rear axle from some hungarian heavy duty truck, welded spider gears and works like a charm.

Does it generate power?
If not, what is it used for?

I'm assuming yes, since he stated above that it generates 275 KW...

Looks like a nightmare belt situation there in the first two pics. Those are some fairly good sized belts.

We have banded belts on equipment (crushers, grinders and rolls,50 to 400HP) that have been running for ten to twenty years and are stilling going strong. As long as you maintain proper tensions, alignments and sheave wear, they are very reliable. We only run an eight hour shift as opposed to his round the clock, but still they are quite reliable for the most part.
