TC30
I'm not sure if I want to get the TC30 with Hydro or 9X3. My exact needs are cutting grass and driving in the woods to do clean-up work. I have a bad back and hips, and it's hard to work the clutch on my 9N when going from forward to reverse and when you engage the bush hog and go (no live pto). What I'd like to know is if the 9X3 works the same way for driving as the 9N (you put in in gear and go ). The reason I'm thinking about the 9X3 is when cutting I can put in gear and not keep my leg in one position ( if that's how it works ). If with the Hydro you have to keep you foot on the pedal when cutting for a few hours ( like driving a car ) my right leg and hip would hurt. On the other hand for stop and go and changing speeds in the woods I'm sure it would be easier with a Hydro. Any comments or idea's would help alot.

Keep in mind some of the hydros have cruise control. On my TC-35D once you set the speed with the hydro pedal you press the cruise button then you sit back and relax. I don't think that cruise is an option on the TC-30. Maybe some of the 30 owners will chime in. Are you going to do any front loader work ? If so the hydro would be an advantage.

By all means find a tractor that fits you. I have problems with my right elbow. When tractor shopping last year many of the FEL controls felt awkward having to reach up and out to grab the controls. I bought the NH because the joystick control is located down low just to my right side. It make a big difference after riding the tractor for 4 hours or more.

Good Luck....

I just purchased a TC24d in January. It does have the cruise control. So I suspect that they are on all the new HS models. I would certainly try both of them out to see which one is easiest on my back.

Hello,

My TC30 was the first tractor I have had with Hydro and let me tell you, its nice. The cruise control is an available option for the TC30. I just bought a cruise control kit on Ebay a few months back and it works sweet. The cruise doesnt disengage with the brake or hydro pedal though. You must engage and disengage it with your hand. Works good though.
Good luck with whatever you decide.

Not sure what you mean 9x3 but I have a TC40 with shuttle shift. Clutch does not work as hard as my old IH 300 utilty. And I love the shuttle shift and the geared transmission. Have not had a lot of seat time on hydro style tractors so I can't really respond to there easy and set up. One thing to remember about the TC verses the TC d type tractors is that the TC D seats pivot a little and the geared tractors don't. This may be something you may want to consider with back problems. I would go to a dealers and try both machines out if at all posible.

i can't think of any reason in the world not to own a hydro. i've had two and have never had a situation i couldn't get in or out of. if you have bad knees or if your planing on getting them (you will with a clutch) you'll appreciate the hydro. on a scale of 1-10 i give the hydro a 15. but no matter what transmission you get, you'll love the tc-30. the only problem i have with mine is it doesn't fit in the bed with me and my wife, so she sleeps in the barn.

I have a TC-30 hydro and it has worked out well. If you can add a cruise control kit that should solve your leg-in-one-possition issue. It's a nice machine for the $$.

I spent hours laboring over this question, too. My concern was a bad right knee staying in one position on the hydro pedal for exended periods. I bought the HST and so far haven't had a moments reget. The pedal and platform allow me to shift my foot position enough pedal so the knee is okay.

The real answer to all this lies with you.

I have a 9x3 TC-30 and would not trade for the hydro. But, I do very little loader work or other chores that bring out the good points in the hydro transmission. Mostly mowing, spraying and other open field, steady-speed tasks that require very little stop & go.

But to answer your question, yes, the 9x3 is a put it in gear, release the clutch and go.

the 9x3 on my TC30 is perfect, wouldn't trade it for a hydro. Yes it is much the same as your old ford, put it gear, set the gas and go. Also has a foot pedal for gas (in addition to the dash lever) in case you need a quick hit of go go juice.
