hydrolic fluid killed grass, now what?

Herbicide applicators in my field of forestry use deisel fuel to help burn the foliage or cut the waxy cuticle on leaves to help take up the herbicide or to cut through the bark of a tree with a basal injection. Oils are great killers! sorry about the lawn. Between it and dog pee this stuff can give roundup a runfor the money.

oh yeah, if only we could bottle dog pee...we'd be rich..it kills everything...LOL

I use some Dawn dish detergent to get the herbicide to stick to the leaves on Russian olive and multi-flower rose bushes.

Just dig until you can't smell it in the soil. That's as far as you need to dig, but no deeper than the roots of the grass. Replace with good soil and your good to go for the grass.

my tractor blew a hydrolic line and blew a substantial amount of fluid on the lawn, and killed a large area of grass. Is there anything I can put on this area to regenerate the lawn this growing season?

The last time this happened it took 3 years for the grass to grow back.

I would suggest renting a sod cutter, and take the sod off from the burned areas. Then water heavy (I'd use a detergent but not say anything to the enviro's) to flush some oil residue away. I doubt it goes very deep.
Then either cut some sod from another location, or buy some new sod to lay down.

To me, that would do the job and any oil residue would not affect the new sod.

seems like way to much work, i would scoop it out with the fel and replace with it., i have no fel so i would hand dig and either replace with back of the lot dirt or buy the cheap topsoil and add and then dig plugs out of my yard in other spots and replace, then fertilize and water every day so it stays wet, but then again most say im cheap.

Dish soad helps it stick yes and not roll off, it is your surfactant and will also help fuels and water mix in a tank mix. But the deisel is for a different reason, they will use both in some tank mixes, the deisel will burn the waxy cuticle of the leaves so that the herbicide with the surfactant (read dish soap) mix will penetrate better as it is sitting on the leaf or stem.

Just sounded to me like Doc wanted a quick fix back to green lawn. :)
