here is a link to what it sounds like. This isn't my tractor just found it online to simulate whats going on... Tractor runs fine, loader/pto work fine. However when I put my foot on the peddle to go forwards or backwards the hydrostatic whines. Checked fluid and it looks good. Hydro, oil and power steering all good. Look clean and topped off. Does this in 2 and 4 w.d. whines louder as rpms increase. I just bought this tractor used and it worked great. Now this sound just appeared. I was moving snow with the bucket in 4 w.d. in high gear. Not sure if that caused it. Thank you for taking the time to respond and offer suggestions. Tried searching this forum but it doesn't appear to be working. My tractor is a new Holland tc18. 2006.

Most hydrostats make the wining noise when overloaded, and its even louder when cold. Does it make the noise in low? When noise sounds, reduce pedal and see what happens.

You've got to always remember, the pedal is not a throttle, like your car, but a link to the hydrostatic transmission. When running in high, don't ever stomp the pedal down like in your car. Instead, ease it down and as speed increases, ease the pedal down further. Working loads, like hauling snow, is best performed in lower ranges, ESPECIALLY if there is any incline whatsoever.

The HST will while if you're in too high of a gear for the work you're doing, or if you're depressing the pedal too far for the amount of engine power available. Switch to a lower gear range and/or back off the pedal. Remember the HST pedal is like a gear shift -- the farther you push it, the higher the gearing. It's not a throttle.
