I'm planning on buying a Hypertherm 45XP very soon. I have a question about the CNC interface. If I'm reading the info correctly all the 45's come with a serial interface while some models add a CPC interface. Is that correct? While getting a CNC machine in the future sounds great I'm not sure it will ever happen. However, if plans change is the CPC something I will need? Thanks in advance.

Should be simple to add later.

I got one for xmas... w/CPC port installed option (#088113). It does not have a serial interface just a knock out for it.

Welders Equipment | Welding Supplies | Welding Machines | Plasma Cutting Machines | Used Plasma Cutters | Welding Helmets | MIG TIG Welders | Welders Supply Company Beloit-Big Bend-Burlington Wisconsin and Rockford & Crystal Lake, Illinois for more detail.

I don't think any of them come with the actual RS port installed... I think you will have to call and specifically request the RS interface. Good luck.

If you buy XP with machine torch or both torches it comes with CPC. If you buy it with hand torch it might or might not have CPC. If you are planning CNC table then get both torches. It is a hustle to install and uninstall hand torch on/off the table. Lack of CPC also requires wiring surgery inside of the plasma power supply that might woid warranty. Serial is optional field installable feature. Serial is nice but not necessary IMO.

My wife bought me 85XP with both torches last Christmas therefore I bought a plasma table from Precision Plasma and Blade Runner electronics from CandCNC. I did lot of hand cutting (hand torch comes handy) but I am s till trying to conquer completely the CNC stuff. It sometimes works great and then something goes wrong. I am using Fusion 360 to design stuff, save it as dxf file and do post processing in SheetCAM that came with the electronics. The table was set up for down draft from the factory but I converted it water table. The issue was that my shop is heated to only about 40F in the winter and if the plasma table is running it would exhaust large volume of air outside and draw same volume of freezing air in. The water table had another issue. When I left the water in the table (in the summer) it slowly evaporated and increased humidity in the shop to about 90%. When I came to the shop after being out of home for about two weeks there was mold on everything. So now I have 250 gal plastic tank by the table and drain the water before I leave the shop. It takes only minutes to fill it back up with a pump designed for small garden pond recirculation.
I am typing this in hope it would help you in decision making.
Ladia.

Redneck, I already bought the machine. I bought a 45XP without the ports because it's not likely I'll buy a table. I found what I think was a good deal on one with a 50 ft torch and a box of consumables and cover. With the long torch I'll be able to sit the machine on a shelf, plumb the air to it and it should reach about anywhere in my shop and even outdoors without dragging a cart and air hose around. I also sent you a PM.

With 50 feet of torch you might want to protect your cables.

I used spiral hydraulic cable wrap for mine. Torch AND 6 gauge work cable in the same enclosure.

I was out in the shop earlier with the torch and ground leads stretched out and thought I need to cover the leads. I never thought of hydraulic hose covering though. Good idea. I also decided I'd rather have it on a cart.

I originally had mounts so the plasma cutter could sit on top of all my welding carts, but found I preferred using it on a dedicated cart.
