hunterridgefarm, not to rain on your fun of buying new implements /forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif, but most likely the implements that you would be purchasing for use with your current tractors would not hold up to a 60-70 hp utility tractor in the future. Food for thought.
Good luck /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

MntViewRanch,
That has been a big concern of mine. I had a post a couple of weeks back about "Implement Decision" where I was asking what size implements could I buy for the 3130 that I could also use for the utility.
This is also one reason I am holding off on the field cultivators, and most likely the set of disc. The forks and PHD should be no problem and even though the utility could pull a 3 bottom plow easy the 2 bottom will be all I would need.

The landscape rake looks like it will be the additional piece I buy and will most likely get gauge wheels with it.

I thinking 7 foot for the landscape rake, 3130 should be able to handle that and it would still be an ok size for the utility...?

("From your bio, it almost seems you've got more tractors than implements. I think a with the % wooded acres a root rake grapple might suit your immediate needs most.")

MMM,
Root rake grapple is something I am researching now. I have read several post where people have used their box blade for roots and may try this for around the house. We will clear about 1 to 1 and 1/2 ac around the house and leave the rest natural for now. So the box blade may work in the beginning.

And we still plan on buying a used dozer. /forums/images/graemlins/cool.gif

As far as the number of tractors...a man can never have enough /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

The L185 is used to cultivate seedlings and bush hog sometight places.

L3130- finish mow some lots we own, bush hog a few ac., clear old road bed to 4 ac bottom, and plant Fall crops. Will sell at some point.

JD- mow yard

8N- restore, used since childhood with my Dad.

Ford 600- was my Dads, he has Alzheimer's and is in a nurseing home, can't bring myself to sell it yet but I will sell it when I sell the 3130 and restore his & my 8N.

From what I've read of your plans and needs, I think you should just bank the cash for awhile and try to increase the amount you have for when you really need it. Right now you're unsure of what attachment you need, which means you really don't need anything right now.

You have quite a few tractors. If they have sentimental value, than keep them, but if they are a potential source of revenue, I'd sell all or most of them. You goals are pretty ambitious and one really good tractor far outweights allot of fun or ornamental ones.

A dozer will do things faster and easier than just about anything you have. They can be money pits if you buy one without know what to look for, and even with some knowledge, they can still be money pits. If you go this route, but the very best, newest one you can with a source of parts close by.

Did you mention a backhoe in your list??? It's easily the handiest tool around. If your buy a larger tractor, consider one with a backhoe. If your gonna keep what you have, I'd put one at the top of your list for a really useful attachment.

I'll sell my dozer when I'm done with it, but never my backhoe!!!!

hunterridgefarm, I think that the 7' rake would be ok, but I would consider an 8' rake. I think that your Kubota will handle it for now. Of course I very well might be wrong, need to ask somebody that has your size tractor. /forums/images/graemlins/smirk.gif
Good luck

With 172 acres I think you're forgetting the most important item. I'd consider a new rifle or shotgun and a scabbard for that tractor. /forums/images/graemlins/smirk.gif
Get the implements later when you make your mind up.

Just to update:

Will be going to get Forks, PHD, and BackPack Blower this week. Had a little wrinkle thrown into the plan. I have to fence in around the old home place we are trying to restore, mainly for insurance and to hopefully keep people out. To fence around the house, barn, and three other outbuildings will be around $1,000.00 for fence, 2 gates and T-post. I have the wood post for corners and gates.

Still looking for the 2-bottom (used), should find one soon. Someone always had one for sale until I started looking /forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif. But I'm sure one will pop up soon.

hunter,

sounds like y'all are gearin up to do what we're hoping to do with the roadside market, blueberries, etc. except we only have 25 acres. But anyways, I just wanted to drop a resource to you. I don't know whereabouts in Western NC you are but we're in Anderson County, SC and there's a guy up around the NC/SC border, I think he's in York County. PM me and I'll give you his name and number if your interested. He's not an official business, just a guy who wheels and deals from his own home. We bought our JD 2010 from him and a few implements. Super nice guy, knows his stuff, and has a lot of implements and decent prices, plus quite a few 8N's or other N's. He has new and used implements, we bought our 2 bottom plow, boom pole, mechanical transplanter, bush hog, etc. from him. And we usually call him first for any additional implements to see if he's got the best deal. We've bought a couple that weren't from him but those have been spur of the moments, stoppin and asking people "ummm, I noticed you have that _______(insert implement here) in your yard and was wondering if you were selling it?". Sometimes it works and sometimes it doesn't. I usually end up having a real good talk with some people and usually learn something along the way.

As for helpin you spend your money /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif well, all I can say is go for what your gut is tellin you to get. One thing about farmin and tractor stuff is that they hold their values pretty well so if you got something and had to resell it, chances are you'd get your money back or take a minimal loss. And I definitly agree with some of the other TBN'ers, get the welder, it's a must, it's fun, and if you continue to read the post in here, you're going to end up building something out of metal. /forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif

Plus with the welder, on the implement that you buy, you may modify it one day, then possibly have to sell another day, and in which case, you could probably sell it for more that what you paid. I figure in this world tractors=implements=welder=fun=work=fencing! which gets me back to TBN /forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif

just my 2 cents and nickels worth,
Steve

1bush2hog,
I check IWANNA on-line and if I see something I am interested in I will go buy one. Checking on-line will show everything except the phone number unless you pay.

I also check Agri Review and several other sales papers. I am sure something will show up soon. I have found a couple that are about 3 hours drive, 6 hours round trip; but I'm not going to drive 6 hours to save $100.00.
