I was always taught to either " Eat it or Wear it". and that "We are not running a restaurant here" and " Your Mom is not a Short Order Cook"! "Eat what is provided or don't eat at all". We were never allowed to be "picky eaters" and always had to eat everything on our plates. Hahahaha Fun Times!

Yep, and Lord help you if you made the mistake of saying, "I don't like that" because then Dad would see that you ate some of it even if he had to beat you until you did.

I wonder - did we ALL grow up in the same house??? Mom cooked every meal - what was on the table was what you could eat - nothing more, nothing less. Ha, ha - - EXACTLY what my dad would do. A serving of everything would be on your plate and you would eat it all - even if you had to sit there until the gates to H E L L froze over. It only took one time for me to learn that lesson.

Yes, and there was no food wasted. Even today, my plate is clean when finished and the beagle has a sad look on his face.

I've got an 8 month old chocolate lab - puppy. He gets a tad cranky if he doesn't get his share as we eat a meal. Hard, very hard, to refuse a sad chocolate face.

It's funny how dogs are born with and exhibit those sad little faces and those pleading eyes. They could make an ogre cry.

Yep, that's the way it was.

Same here, except ours was a chihuahua, and I'm afraid I succumbed to the pleading, and I still miss her now that she's gone.

That's the way I grew up also...but then again I never experienced some foods because Dad didn't like it! Fortunately that list was pretty short. I married a very fussy eater who's father had a longer list of "no eat" things. She has since come around.

My Wife has come around too. Imagine being of German, Ukrainian and French Canadian heritage and never trying bratwurst. She has come around to the dark side now.

One of my wife's nephews raises beef, he takes orders for it standing, then sells off the rest. He has a "kill day" where the butcher has a truck go out and kill them, then the butcher calls when he is ready to cut and finds out how you want it. This last time, we had hardly any roasts, mostly steaks and hamburger. Wife puts it on the Traeger and we eat it. On average, this last one was $4/lb including everything. It is certainly better tasting than much of what you get in the stores.

We used to have garden, but after working all spring and summer, then have an early frost and deer eating it, it just wasn't worth it. I bought some used chain link fencing to put up years ago, never got it done.

This time of year was great, as the garden was thriving. Lunch was often cukes, tomatoes, and corn- picked AFTER the water was put on because everyone knows that's the only way that your corn is fresh. Somehow it never bothered me to have the same things for weeks on end, often twice a day. At night my father would pick more corn, and we would have a contest to see who could eat the most ears.
It wasn't uncommon to go knocking on the neighbor's doors at our camp, giving out cucumbers, tomatoes and corn.
