I remember when search engines were made in America and not cluttered up with all that pollution crap. Heck, now-a-days they even want you to pee into a bottle on your search engine.

...
There has always been just three things that generate Internet traffic...and they are: content, content and content...!

it is "traffic" that sets the value of web sites...not necessarily the content...but it's the content that drives the traffic...

Back in the last century, when TBN was using the name of a tractor brand, there was another tractor website. I actually read ALL of the content on the other tractor website AND the content on what would become TBN.:laughing::laughing::laughing: That is no longer possible with TBN. :D:D:D

I think the other website died because it did not have as much content as what was to be TBN. I stopped going to the other website because it did not have as much content. TBN just kept getting content and traffic. Which begat traffic and content. <Repeat>

Some websites have decent search engines and others are horrible. Lowes is pretty bad for some reason.

Later,
Dan

When I want to buy a specific item, I Google search the item description then click images.

I can quickly review the images, find what I want, and many times, easily get the part/item number.

Now, search eBay/Amazon with the part/item number,,, you get exactly what you want.

I just did that with a Tillman welding bib,, it is a leather bib for attaching to the bottom of a welding helmet,,,
If you search welding bib on eBay or Amazon,, you get thousands of wrong items,,,

I've noticed for quite a while now how I seemed to be able to find stuff so much easier in the past but these days it seems search engines just point you to stuff for sale, often with little to do with any word in the search term and sometimes zero to do with it.

Try searching for a tire.. lol.. you type in the EXACT size & manuf.. you'll be real lucky, if that tire shows up ANYWHERE on the page..

IMO One of the biggest scams currently running is the "dark web" scan for your personal info...
They are supposed to the scan dark web to see if your information is listed (basically for sale)...what a joke...actual dark web URIs are constantly changing and there is no way one company can keep up... they are a joke and their their list of sites to check are likey 18 months or more out of date...!

It's even a bigger scam than free credit rating sites...

Read all the fine print in the user agreements and terms of service documents...!!

Be safe...it's a jungle out there...!

The looking at images only, has also been a successful strategy of mine recently. Although sometimes leads you to a site where the image you saw is nowhere to be seen. OR requires log in.

No matter how specific I am in my searches always come up with items totally unrelated.
Looked on ebay today for "pump motor start switch" came up with auto starters and wanting to know what vehicle! ???
Also checked "water pump motor start switch" , same thing.
It seems to be on most online stores.
On Lowe's I was looking for "laminate flooring" it comes up with flooring and also patio furniture.
I guess the basement dwelling programmers don't know the difference!

They don't provide options based on what you have asked for... they provide options based on what an advertiser has PAID for, of which you might be interested based upon your request.

PINE.. I almost forgot about the "dark web" scam.. LOL..
THEY want YOU, to GIVE THEM YOUR information.. so they can put it in their search engine/put YOUR INFO out on the web to scan the "web"??
What makes THEM think their system is SAFE?? People hack the Govt servers.. but this little company thinks theirs is safe?? WHAT A JOKE.

I have used different browsers on various operating systems over the years and never had much luck blocking the ads and trackers, and I'm on a not too fast DSL line so this crap allways slowed things down even more. Last year I picked up a Chromebook and I'm now using Chrome with the Ghostery extension and all I will say is it's a beautiful thing.
