I have been useing JD plus 50 oil in my JD tractor and my dodge 1 ton (cummins engine) I went to a Kubota tractor since my dealer wanted to play list price game any way I don't feel I should keep buying all the oils from JD now. I am looking for another oil that I can use in my truck and tractor. I can get Rottella in a 55 gal drum for $329. I prefer the drum, since it will last a year. Any pro's or con's on this oil. If it works out good I would also use it in my wifes chevy avachahe ( I can't spell that one). Or I could go to my local coop under centex brand? I don't mean to start a war I just don't know which way to go.

Rotella is good oil. I don't think the Avalanche probably lists 15w-40 among the preferred grades, however.

DDT,
Shell Rotella is a good oil. We used it exclusively in the oilfield when I worked in the oilfield. Those engines see severe useage sometimes for days on end without shutdown. Quite often at full throttle running pumps and such. Another good oil is Chevron's Delo 400. This is a favorite of a lot of over-the-road truckers. Buy it by price, just change your oil at the recommended interval.

I use rotella in every diesel I own. We have been doing it for many years and no problems at all. You can buy it from Sam's Club for $270 for 55 gallon drum. Farm and Fleet also has it for around the same price.

That's a big price difference if it's the same. G

I've never been to the Sam's website so I couldn't tell you about that. I'm sure the prices are the same all across the country.

Yes Gerard it's the same Rotella.

I just checked on the website and for some reason it doesn't show the 55 gallon drums. On the website you can find the closest Sam's Club to you. Just call them and see how much it goes for.
