How'd you like to pick up the tab for this one!

I don't know.....It probably would have been cheaper to leave it at the bottom of the lake, and go buy a new tractor.

Yeah, that was a pretty elaborate rescue. Not cheap I am sure. I wonder what the outcome was for the person that sunk it.

From what I can glean from Google Translate, the fell through the ice while cleaning off a temporary ice rink in Helsinki.

"Border Guard Super Puma to bring the tractor Puotila the Gulf on March 29, 2012. Helsinki Sports Department tractor sank when the mobile ice skating rink betrayal of the underlying February 2012."

I don't know about over there but up here you are required to remove it from the bottom for environmental reasons. I'm sure we aren't the only ones

Some people who do work on the lakes around here have replaced the oil in their machines with a biodegradable oil. Not cheap, but cheaper than remediation in the case of a spill.

Let's see, two divers, about $20 per hour, helicopter $50 per hour, air boat $10 per hour, a couple of operators, $20 per hour. Sounds like a $100 would cover it!

Methinks that your numbers are missing a zero or two...

+1 on the numbers. We had a helicopter put some hvac units on our roof at work and they were well over 1000/hr.

All I can say is "burrrrrrrrr"

Yeah, it was just a Kubota... I would have left it too.

In all seriousness, does anyone have any idea on real estimates? I'm guessing $5-8k, but of course that's just a guess and could be way off. Probably would be worth it. I just wonder why they wouldn't wait until spring and get a barge out there, but I guess that may not be much cheaper.

That's quite a rescue. What I'm wondering - what is that large "space ship shaped" structure in the background, just above treetop level. Its very obvious thru the last half of the video. A water tower - air traffic control tower for an airport - an alien spaceship about to land????

The helicopters we call for bush fires were about $1800 per hr plus fuel and that time started from when the on-call guy's phone rang. That was a couple yrs ago. If you leave it till spring, good chance all the fluids will have leaked out contaminating the lake. Usually a very short window of time to get them out according to regulations, without endangering lives to do it.

The biodegradable fluids sounds like a neat idea. Would that include grease and the fuel also?

Also wondering if it was a local communities so the Govt may have assisted with the recovery. Sort of like our National Guard helping??
Pretty darn neat no matter what

It was a municipal tractor and the "Coast Guard" was the ones who picked it out, so I wouldnt be surprised if this was written off as a training exercise.

I'm guessing if you added up the actual cost it would be in the neighborhood of 10k.
