Tractor
MF 1726E
Can anyone tell me what this (see photos) is on my Massey Ferguson MF 1726E? It's on the right side, below the oil fill cap. It seems to be a cap or a valve in a rubber tube. I think the cap had a tab on it so you could use your fingers to turn it. But the tab may have broken off when my metal funnel fell against it. Either as a result or a coincidence, the tractor will not start now. It cranks fine, but does not fire. Any thoughts?

Looks like the coolant system drain. The left hose is pretty hefty though. Where does it go, to the block?

Yes, you're right. I finally was able to see that one end went to the engine block and the other went to the radiator. I opened it and radiator fluid came out.

So I'm still trying to figure out why the engine won't fire.

Are you sure it's not your fuel cut off valve?

Try it in both positions, one should be off. One will be on.

It looks like it's half way in between right now.
Thnx, but no, it's a coolant drain. See below--

Does your machine have a fuel solenoid?

Not exactly a great spot to put it. But, it's a subcompact, so there are not a lot of options.

Do you hear the fuel pump running when you turn the key on? It should be under the seat.

Google says it does. Is that something I can & should check? (I'm not familiar with how to do so.)

On my kioti, the fuel solenoid wasnt operating. It turned out that the relay that supplied power to the solenoid wasnt working. Im not sure how your particular unit is set up. Also on most tractors, a seat or clutch switch could affect fuel shutdown. You should check all the safety switches.

I don't hear anything when I turn the key one notch. When I turn it a little farther, to activate the glow plug, I hear a kind of rattly noise from the engine area. When I turn it farther, to activate the starter, the starter is all I hear.

The fuel pump is quiet. It makes a clicking sound.

If you don't hear it, I would start checking the power to it. You should feel it vibrate a little, if you can touch it.

They sometimes they put in line fuses near the fuse box, that are not actually inside the fuse box. So, check all around there for a blown fuse.

Ideally, you unplug the pump and test for hot and ground. As well as test the pump, by attaching power directly to it. This may be difficult, due to the fact that it is a subcompact tractor.

On previous models, there have been ignition switch wires, broken or corroded. Try and at least do a visual inspection for those.

If I'm understanding your engine is turning over but not starting?

When was the last time it ran?

Did you perform any maintenance since it last ran?

Is your battery in good condition?

Have you checked all your safeties, PTO not engaged, sitting in seat, transmission in neutral, brake on.....?
