I BENT TIE ROD

Gizmo, great diagram. I think he is talking about number 23, tie rod
TIE ROD *TR-8290*: Yanmar Tractor Parts

Its a simple fix and not all that expensive and I think if he tries to straighten it? it would mess up the threads.

I know 23 is the tie rod ,If he tries to straighten it on the tractor and breaks 21 is what i was trying to say. the tie rod want break I don't think. But I did break 21 one time bending on the tie rod.that was on a D19 a long time back and it was 97$ back then . It may be more now.If you break one thing trying to fix something else you are backing up.And I have done that a lot.

Spray a little yellow paint on the threads before you take it apart and you'll get it right back in the same sweet spot.

Gizmo, it sounds like we have both tried it the other way and had sad results. I wish him best of luck with this

Piece of angle welded to it can put it together if it breaks and will keep it from bending next time.

Exactly what I was going to say. It's something that I routinely do to all my tractors since I bend tie rods on most of them. Works great and you'll never know it's there.

I hooked a chain to my FIL and pulled mine somewhat straight, then removed it back at home to fix it properly.

the only problem with this is it can put stresses on other stuff....that won't bend and could cost more.

Rob This would be true if the bending were occuring by excessive forces coming from trying to turn the wheels and them not turning. Since the bending is coming from the center of the actual tie rod hitting something, negible additional forces will be delivered to the remaining components. I routinely reinforce my tierods and have been doing it for over 20 years with absolutely no problems.

The tie rod on my Kioti is solid round stock drilled out on the ends for the tie rod ends. If you want to bend it back while still on the tractor then I would recommend heating it without burning the tractor. That should make it easier to bend and less likely to bend again. It would stink to use too much force and break off the hub ears where the tie rod ends attach.

I just replaced my bent rod since they only cost like 40$.
