Re: I Can\'t Believe It Finally Happened to me...

Hi all,

Thanks for the warm welcomes and the Latin lesson. I actually took German in H.S., but always liked that phrase.

I am having a blast on the new GC2300. Took the MMM off today, so I could play in the woods with the loader.

I will have pics soon. My wife captured the delivery for historical sake.

See ya'll later.

Chiege, you probably know this already since you've already got your mower off, but be careful of that hydaulic oil filter when taking your mower on and off. Fortunately, I haven't learned this by experience...yet. Glad to hear you're having fun!

I'm not sure but according to google it means something like this:

"Don\'t let the [censored] get you down." /forums/images/graemlins/shocked.gif

Which is really a sort of Latin joke. It doesn't really
mean that for various reasons, but it sounds like it should
mean that. People who KNOW latin use it as a sort of
test sometimes, as I understand it, to determine if
the other person is knowledgeable or just faking it.

The quote was also featured in "A handmaids Tale"
by Margret Atwood, and gained popularity after that.

A bit off topic I suppose.

"A Handmaid's Tale".....I read that book some years back. Now, can someone explain to me how that word describing an illegitimate child is permitted on TBN? /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif

Off topic, YES.

Re: I Can\'t Believe It Finally Happened to me...

The 'B' word itself describes many things.... For instance.. a file similar to a rat tail file.. etc. Besides... just because it (also ) describes an illegitimate child.. why would you think the word shouldn't be banned here here? It isn't slang, and doesn't pertaint to a purient interest according to webster?

I think specific use is at issue.

Keep in mind that the FCC has in recent rulings shown that an otherwise offensive word, when used as and adverb or adjective ( and not a verb ) is no longer specifically prohibited.

For instance.. in the sentence: Look at those two
people 'f-----g'., 'f' is a verb.. and would be 'offensive'.

In this sentence: You are 'f-----g' stupid. 'f' is an adverb, modifying stupid.. and therefore no longer refering to an act of purient interest.

On topic? NO

All in how you say it... /forums/images/graemlins/tongue.gif

Re: I Can\'t Believe It Finally Happened to me...

It is really "pig Latin."
The Nolite est means "do not let/allow"
Illigitimus is as stated above.
The "carborundum" is "pure pig latin" for "wear you down"...just using a name of an abrasive material with a latin ending ("...um") being used totally incrrectly..but all in fun.

Another famous saying is "Semper ubi sub-ubi"
which literrally translates as "always wear under-wear"...but means nothing if correctly translated. But if you can't have fun with Latin..where can you have fun!?!? /forums/images/graemlins/tongue.gif

Anyway...for the important stuff....congrats on the tractor!!
