I. D. Question

   / I. D. Question #11
From what I can tell, PT has used tram pumps from a number of different manufacturers. Old threads indicate some are Eaton, and at least one model used a Sauer-Sundstrand pump. The Bondioli & Pavesi pump makes at least three known brands. There are probably others.

Google reveals there are a number of businesses specializing in hydrostatic transmission and pump repair. They list numerous pump manufacturers on their various web sites.

NJ Bill,
I've been doing a lot of research on the INTERNET compiling a list of the OEM's. suppling components and parts to PowerTrac. Here's one for the great PT pump mystery. As far I can tell the pumps are made in Italy. The USA distributor / dealer is in Ashland, VA., almost in powertracs backyard. (well give or take 250 miles :D)
Attached is your pump logo picture and the pictures I came up with.

Wow! Good job on the logo! Also I hope you will share your list of suppliers, that is something we all need from time to time.:)

Bob,
It would be a big help if you could contact the company in Ashland
( where you are only 34 miles from there ) and confirm / verify the model# and tag# of the pumps they supply to PowerTrac for the 180, 422, 425, and 2425. Thanks for the help. It would be great if those PT owners had access to a OEM parts list. We all know that once the PT warranty has expired we're on our own, unless we order parts through PowerTrac and then we still don't know who the OEM is.

Bob, if you do contact them and they are willing to talk to you, please see if you can get a date range for when they supplied PT with pumps. I can't find their Omega symbol anywhere on my tram pump, at least in the areas that I can get to, and am wondering if PT might have switched to a different brand of pump when they went to the high torque wheel motors.

Thanks.

Try this link Bondioli & Pavesi

Which model PT are you talking about. The tram pump on my PT-1445 is an Eaton VSP. The steering and lift pump is a Haldex, and the PTO pump is a Cessna gear pump. My machine is an early 90's model.

Snowridge,
I took delivery of my 180 in early Sept /04. The logo is cast into the L / R sides of the pump coupled to the engine Lovejoy connector and housing. What year is your PT ?. I read through your old posts and threads, but you are one of the many UNFORTUNATE SOLES that will be forever blackballed ( oops... I mean relabeled :D ) DONOTDELETE....join date 1969, from when the new TBN format was installed a few years back. I couldn't find out when you joined or the year of your PT.

I owned the 180 and if I decide to buy another PowerTrac I will get the 425 or 2425. The small pt's (including the 180 & 422 ) are the models that I'm interested in compiling a parts list for. I have no need to know who the OEM's are suppling parts for the big red machines. I'll leave that up to someone else who owns one of the larger PT's :D

I will NEVAH be deleted. NEVAH, I say. :p

Okay, that was tacky. I admit it. :D

We bought our PT-425 in 2003. There are no Omega marks on its tram pump at all. Although I can't see the end that is coupled to the engine, I can see the sides, top, and back plate without too much trouble, and it isn't there.

There is an old post by someone by the same name, DONOTDELETE, that mentions that PT told him his pump was an Eaton. His description of his pump matches mine perfectly, but I can't find it in the Eaton catlog.

PT seems to be a company that changes suppliers frequently, and I don't think they would hesitate to spec a different pump, or source it from a different manufacturer, if that would realize a performance or cost advantage.

I suspect you have solid lead to who built your pump, and I congratulate you, but I am afraid a lot of us have to keep on digging.

   / I. D. Question #19
Snowridge,
From a business stand point of view I can understand PowerTracs MO. They will order X # of pumps, PTOs, steering/lift pumps etc. from who ever gives them the best price. In the end it's the owners of PT's machines that get screwed, because you end up buying the parts through PT at inflated prices. When I changed out the 2 spool valve for a 3 spool valve for my 180 mini hoe project PowerTrac gave me a price of about $500.00 +/- ( It's been awhile since I completed that project ). I went through a local hydraulic parts dealer, after spending 2+ months finding the right PT OEM for the 3 spool valve ( Sauer / Danfoss ). The new valve cost me less than $300.00 with shipping.

What is the name of the distributor? I did not see in on the link. An address would be nice. They are probably in the air park in Ashland.
