I.D this Tractor.

Morning Guys,

Nothing important. Not even sure if this is the right forum for this, but here it is. I've been reading a book called 'Successful Small-Scale Farming' and there is a picture of a tractor on the cover. Nowhere in the book does it I.D the tractor, and the angle of the shot makes it difficult to tell what it is (at least for a novice like me). I've attached a scan of the cover.

Any ideas?

I'd say it is definitely a Farmall. As to which model, that I'm not certain.

Definately an M FarmAll, looks like an early one. They hit the dealers in 1939 and ran until "number series" came out in mid 50's. Good ol' tractors.

I'm with you that it's definitely a Farmall. But I'm thinking it's an "H" model based on the size of the rear tires. Other than tire size I wouldn't know any other way to tell them apart with no more picture than we have. I think they must have had terrible paint though because it was very common to see them running around that rusty brown. If you saw good paint on one it definitely lived in a shed. Fun looking though isn't it!!! Brings back good memories!!!

i'd say def. a farmall possibly an h or m. if you look close you can see the old hand crank for starting hanging near the right side light. so whatever model it is it's old.

I'm pretty sure its a Farmall M. Couple of things, the shorter wider exhaust came on the M (H's were usually thinner and higher). The real "kicker" here are the axels. Note how they "slope" away at the ends. H axel were pretty much straight out like a Super C. M's sloped away at the end. My $.02 worth. BobG in VA

I am fairly certain it is an H, as the tires are too narrow for the power of an M, and also the axle diameter appears to be fairly small, about 2" in diameter. The M axles are app 1/2" larger then the H axles. Muffler size is smaller at the top, again about 1-3/4" - 2" which also indicates and H.

I spent many an hour in the seat of an M. Worked on a fruit farm for 9 years until I was 16. We had a couple of 8n's and a Farmall Cub. The M was used to pull an orchard sprayer with a big old wooden tank and for the potato harvester. Also used the PTO to run the cider press. I can't tell which model it is, but it is definitely a Farmall.
