It seemed that nearly all of the 5,000 UAW workers knew Mom was coming and they really made us feel very special. In 6 hours we watched her car go from a painted shell to driving off the line. Many of the workers signed the undercarriage and we have a picture of Mom beaming as she sat in her car as it was going down the line. )</font>

I visited the UAW Ford KY truck plant in the early 90's as a supplier. As trucks would come down the assembly line slowly (about 13 trucks per hour) many workers would quickly bolt on their components to a dozen or so trucks and then they would have an hour to kill. I saw several workers laying down in the inventory racking asleep!
I was never so disgusted with "American workers". For several years I swore never to buy a Ford Product. A few years ago I softened up and ordered a new Ford pickup. When I found out that it would be made at the same KY truck plant I asked if I could visit the day my truck was being built. They said for security reasons they couldn't allow customers in the plant...BS!! /forums/images/graemlins/mad.gif
A lot of manufacturers allow customers to take a "wide isle " tour. ie: John Deere, Volvo, Peterbilt to name a few.
I get the feeling that they aren't proud of what goes on there.

Its hard to support the Unions themselves when every election year they support the most liberal of candiates in this state. They are so predictable in who and where their allegiance is. Firefigters, police, teachers, electricians and nurses unions always let me know how to vote with the non stop ads every election season, 180 degrees from theirs.
