Is the insurance policy "tractor" specific like KTAC or Ultragard? 'or is it covered under your home owners? If home owners insurance, you insured the tractor; one would assume that you should be compensated for your loss.

Sorry - I skipped some details for brevity. It is homeowners. They already paid me the actual value of the tractor in cash - the additional payment I'm discussing is for recoverable depreciation.

Id find out what sizes and brand are selling best in your area and buy a nice used pre emissions one to flip. They seem to be holding their value very well around here.

1) Buy a couple year old, low hour, used Tractor. Wash, wax, detail and service (yea really), then sell it.
2) Buy a nice Sub-Compact TLB. Use it for mowing, and any other little Honey-Do's.
3) 1 or 2, and raffle it to your friends here on TBN. :D

1 - will keep all your investment, plus.
2 - will give you the coolest lawn mower in the neighborhood
3 - will spread the joy

You find yourself in the rarest of conundrums. Enjoy it. :cool2:

btw - I'm not sure why they are 'forcing' you to buy a tractor. It should not matter to them, and not sure they can require it. No different than a car, they determine an amount, they cut a check, and care not where the money goes (unless you are fighting the amount, and getting extra for various repairs etc etc). I think you may want to look into this a little deeper.

Something like this? https://www.tractorhouse.com/listings/farm-equipment/for-sale/22366305/2015-john-deere-3046r

Not old enough. You'll still likely eat some depreciation.

Unless you plan to keep it.

Think pre 2012.

That's the right idea, though I've no notion what sells in your region, and we are heading into a sellers market. See,s that most 3046's I've sen have a cab and cost more, but I'm not the JD Expert by a long shot. I wold simply watch my local market for a couple weeks, see what sells and for how much, then I would buy at a favorable ALL CASH IN HAND deal. Easy to get an additional 10-15% when you start counting out the 100's, CASH is an incredible tool. Show up with a helper, trailer, and greenbacks, and you can swing a few extra k no problem.

For example, your example. It's at a dealer's lot, if it were near the end of a month, on a slow day like a Thursday, gray, maybe a little wet. You've looked at the tractor, it meets needs and is excellent. Salesman knows it is what you want. (Though I didn't see any rear remotes, rear remotes sell). I would show him the 20, 000 cash, ask for a couple of cans of JD Paint. He will say 22, you will say sure no problem, as long as it has Dual Rear Remotes and a front full remote. He will say no way, and you will say. Hey man I get it. Call me if you really want to sell, and WALK AWAY.

Sorry, I get carried away when a deal is in process......... :p Good Luck, I think you are on the right trail.

What is the actual difference in cash? What does the policy specify as accepted replacement?

That would be what my decision would be based on.

That is what I would TRY and do. Talk to a dealer and explain the situation. A big dealer might be better, just as I would not want to deal with a perfect stranger. Heck, I have been burned by people I thought were my friends! Here, the issue is always the tax, when it comes to flipping stuff.

I also know, that the hardest thing to sell is a very low hour tractor, even pristine. I mean, for close to new price. Brand spanking new, might be different, but everyone would think it's a scam, or stolen.

I have never heard of this - if you have a loss, insurance pays YOU for the loss, unless you owe money
to a bank or finance company - then it's up to you to replace the item, or pocket the money....
