The Kohler part number for the muffler kit is 2478610S. That includes muffler, mounting bracket, heat shield, gaskets, etc. I don't know what the muffler only number is.

I purchased from www.outdoordistributors.com, who had the best price, but promptly lost the order. /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif

When I phoned to say it hadn't shown up, they couldn't figure out what had happened. They just shipped it immediately by FedEx Next Day. They did call and give me a tracking number, but no bragging about we're going to fix our mistake and ship if FedEx at no extra charge. They just did it. /forums/images/graemlins/cool.gif

I have been thinking of installing separate dual exhaust exiting out the back, but have been too busy to concentrate on designing it!!

Maybe I'll try your solution. I love my PT, but the noise sucks!!

I wonder why they didn't cut a round hole in the cage and weld a large steel ring there where the exhaust exits.

Probably for guys like me. I've backed into piles of gravel and dirt several times while working the PT at a brisk pace. I had to clean the dirt and gravel from the bottom of the engine compartment but that would be preferable to unplugging the tailpipe. The two lower oval holes would be even worse.

I don't get it. Don't you have a Kohler with the same kind of PT built muffler that I replaced?

The Kohler muffler is louder still, although I don't mind it myself.

Yes, I have the same model.

What I am working on would route a black iron exhaust pipe down and back along each side of the engine incorporating a round small engine muffler or expansion pipe along the way, and exit the rear.

That is what I installed on my Power King. Although it is a straight through pipe, it actually measured quieter than the OEM Kohler. Also, the outlets would be further from me, and have the engine section of the PT between us.

We'll see! Maybe a Winter project!

PS: 104 degrees on I-85 today!!

wouldn't that put more exhaust pipe inside your engine compartment and more heat?

Like I said, its still in the design phase. There are many factors to consider and reconsider.

Maybe holes through the sides of the tub, and then mount the pipes and mufflers outside and routed toward the back. Or maybe up for twin stacks. We'll see!

Say now that sounds like a great idea, if for no other reason then it would look pretty cool /forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif

Once I get the adaptor plates with threaded pipe stubs attached, I can pretty much run the pipes wherever I want!

Maybe twin stacks like I have on the Power King! It might be a little louder, but those rain caps look and sound so cool at idle!! Clack, clack, clickity clack, clack, clack!!
