That musta have been what saved me.. I bailed out at the BS level..

Hard call on that one... the funniest stuff I've seen on paper was stuff brought to me, and asked to 'make it work'.

However I will give you this one.. I get real frustrated with lazy parking lot design... I see a ton of horribly layed out parking lots.. blind ends and alleys ar ethe worst.. also parking that is in line with drive thru windows.. etc.

Also funny is that infrastructure ( roads ) are one of the older and more important aspects of CE'ing... yet.. in college.. highway and traffic design was one of the smallest areas of study.. go figure..

Sorry to get off on this but if you have ever driven around Tulsa you can see excellent examples of highway/expressway engineering at it's worst.

We have off and on ramps in the left lane and the idiot that designed the on ramps to 169 should be shot. One street you need to enter the ramp from the right lane the next street you have enter from the left.

Then they put a new bypass (toll road of course) that runs within 1/2 mile of my property. I can get off if I am coming from Joplin but I can't get on or off going toward, coming from Tulsa.

Sorry about the rant...

Here I thought the ME'S called a meeting to try and figure out what the CE'S had built.

I've only passed through Tulsa without stopping once, and that was over 30 years ago, but I really thought Dallas would hold the record for the worst. /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif /forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif

Soundguy, actually found out you were a CE after I wrote that. Luckily I had already developed a great respect for you prior to learning that /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

I am a geologist or was anyway /forums/images/graemlins/crazy.gif, One of my favorite jobs was reclaiming and shutting down old Coal mines in Washington State. The thing was, the specs were always written and drawn by the newest engineer in the company. We would get these great drawings of a two dimensional solution for a very three dimensional problem. I used to spend a lot of time out in the field helping Contractors interpret Engineering specs. Contractor of course wanted to throw the specs out the window and just ram a stump into the adit. Newbie Engineer wanted to build a monument to engineering. I just wanted to finish the job and go get a beer.

I will say this though, if you let a CE ripen a little, get maybe ten fifteen years of real world, non-academic learning, they usually turn out all right. /forums/images/graemlins/tongue.gif /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

Funny you should mention that.. I have a friend from kentucky.. and around there.. they actually ( or did years back ) churn out minig engineers back when coal was real big.

He showed me some plans that he had.. and it was amazing .. the amount of bad recordkeeping that the miners used... shafts drawn in the wrong place.. mismarked shafts.. abandoned ones left out.. etc..
