Chris, I hope you're feeling better soon. If there's anything that hurts worse than a backache or toothache, I haven't found it yet. /forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif

Good luck with your new addition to your motorpool. I hope it turns out to be useful enough to give your back some rest. /forums/images/graemlins/cool.gif

Wow...is that loader ever WILD !!

Just imagine if you got another one for the other side, you could have two going at the same time !! /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

I wonder what the original idea was to have a one arm loader on the side. There must have been a good reason for it at one time.

Ford did make some offset tractors, so perhaps it may have been for them.. (5xx series) however.. I'm not sure of the date the 711 or 722 came out.. that would pretty much determine what model it was designed for.

Another thing. The other early loader styles were tube framed and huge monstrosities. Sometimes called 'jungle-gyms' and you have to either climb up and over to get on the tractors, or enter from the rear.. this would have been 1939-1954 era stuff.. so I'm thinking this was the easy on / easy off issue that may have popped up in 55. Also.. this loader can be mounted or dismounted in about 15 minutes, unlike the tube frame loaders.

I've seen the one armed loader on a lot of late 60's and early 70's tractors, particularly the 4000 Ford. That pic of yours is the first one I have seen in red, as all the others I have seen have been Ford blue. Since there are red and blue ones I would assume that they were manufactured in the 60's, as that is when Ford went from red to blue with its color scheme.

A search of the Ford board at www.YTMag.com indicates the 711/722 was produced in both red and blue, and was first built in 1960. Ford had brackets available to retrofit the loader on everything back through the 8N. They were manufactured into the early 70's.

I just posted a pic in the other NH forum. I did a scratch test, and the color under my red is yellow.. but that could be a non-oem color as well.

SN on the loader looks like 1048, and part number was 19-385, I believe making it a 722 loader.

My parts manual from January, 1965...wow, 40 years ago!...would indicate that the 19-385 is the "Frame Assy., with Hyd. Bucket Dump" on a 711 loader.

I can't tell what the difference is between the 711 and the 722 from the parts manual. Sorry.

Question: Is a portion of the Ford's loader frame also the hydraulic oil reservior? It appears from the manual that this is the case. That's pretty cool. A recent Buell motorcycle was heralded as being innovative by using the rear wheel's swing arm as the oil reservoir. It appears that Buell is just 35-years behind the times!

On my father-in-law's old Ford 2000, the hydraulic reservoir was built into the loader's frame in left upright with the relief valve under the pivot point.

It's hard to tell if the large upright is the sump or if it is merely using the tractors hyd sump.. I'd have to guess that it is just the tractor sump that is used on mine.

My neighbor had a 1959 ford 601 tractor. It was a good tractor. I enjoy the old tractors a lot.

Take care of that back, how well you heal is determined by how well you take care of yourself during this time! I have never had back problems but know a lot of people who have. You can fully recover if you shut down and let it heal back.

Yep.. I'm taking it easy. In fact. The heavies thing I have moved is a bag of feed in the last month. Normall I snatch them up, throw them on a shoulder and go feed the cows. I actually pushed it off the pile this time, and then drug it across the barn and fed the cows.. all without having to lif tthe bag. I learned this 'technique' from my wife... who can't lift a feed bag /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif.
