I'm becoming a bad person.
My thoughts on seeing that was they should have let him hang in there for a while. It was his choice to go there,

Some of you may remember this sad discovery by Oklahoma Highway Patrol in 2013 while trying out their new sonar.

Don't remember that one, but there's been a couple around here very similar in the last few years. Side scan sonar seems to be resolving many of these. I just picked up a new fish finder for ice fishing, but it also has side scan ability when used on a boat. There's a few things I want to check out in a lake I grew up by. A couple sunken boats in there, but no cars (I hope).

There's also some instances of people running off the road and not being found for years. There was one elderly couple in Florida that went missing. Many years later the road crews were cutting back the brush along the shoulders and found a car with the couple still inside. There was another instance where a woman went off an elevated causeway and got hung up in a tree. She was there for days before she was found, but survived. The family knew the route she was taking and drove it a couple times looking for her but just didn't see the car.

A few years ago a young woman went off the interstate into the center median near here and wasn't found until the next day. Her two kids were alive but she had passed away. It bugged me for a while because I was on that same stretch of road at about the time she left it, and you could see right across into the southbound lane, but the car was hidden in some low lying bushes. It's sadly amazing how easily a car can disappear like that.

We had a lucky one here a few years ago where a car went off a steep embankment and was invisible in the heavy scrub, driver was trapped in the car, a local farmer stopped to relieve himself on this lonely road and heard his cries and called rescue teams who got him out, I think he had been there for two days.

I had a friend who got a frantic call from one of his daughters one night that she had driven into the river, water was up to the windows, and didn't know what to do. She'd driven over a small bridge in a park over to an island to drive around the park. It was cold and snowing lightly. When she returned to turn onto the bridge, she didn't realize it was the boat ramp, not the bridge. She turned and drove through the snow covered skim ice. Then, she told him the wrong island. He sent the cops to where she told him she was, and she wasn't there. No one thought to check the other island. By the time he figured it out and drove to the correct island, he found the car, but she wasn't in it. Fortunately, the car hit the bottom and didn't sink further, she climbed out, her phone died, and she walked to a nearby house. They gave her a blanket and let her use their phone. All ok. Could have been a lot worse.

Wow. That's a nightmare. Happy ending at least. Whew.

Yes, it was. An older man disappeared downstate a couple of weeks ago. They were able to find his car in the river, but he wasn't in it.
They will probably find him in spring but it's got to be tough for the family.
