I got hit with heat stroke today...not fun

i was trying to finish up laying pavers on a patio I made bigger at a rent house yesterday, dug out and moved from the trailer 17, 16 X 16 inch 40 pound pavers. I was pushing myself trying to finish. But I would get hot and go in and lay on the tile floor, did that for hours. I got down to the last 5 and just couldn't go any more. Cooled down, came home, cool shower, tried to eat was on the verge of vomitting. I was just sick last night.

Today felt better but have been dizzy a lot today. Not working on any of that stuff all weekend. Maybe will finish that Monday or Tuesday, its just awful hot here in Texas this year.

I've had mowing and trimming to do and have more but not sure I can take this heat, its really bad this year.

So I'm in the house tomorrow, going to finish making DD a dress. Have the top finished and lined, basting on the skirt tomorrow for fit, then will hopefully finish it tomorrow. Its a long dress we are taking on our cruise as we have to dress for dinner in the dining room. Hope to make her another and me one too. The resf of the nights will likely eat in the more casual buffet and wear shorts.

Update:

I have been back at it in the heat. Paranoia runs deep....."Jeeze it's really hot, whoa, was that a dizzy spell...am I too hot....I think I may be feeling funny,... are my feet swelling, ..?? "...etcetc.
All "fun-nin" aside, it appears that I have not permantly damaged myself other than what toll beer consumption has already claimed. I have slowed down, take longer and more frequent breaks and am drinking Gatorade and water. I didn't figure that vitamins were a bad idea either. So far so good.
I just hope that anyone reading this thread gains something that will help prevent what I went through & not to be a dumb azz like me:D!

I have been on the verge of being seriously in trouble with the heat a few times. Seems like the warning sign for me is my heart rate goes up and seems to "tickle" with each beat. Time to sit down and get out of the heat when that happens.

I laid about 600 feet of water line in rock hard ground about 3 years ago with temps over 100. I wanted to get it all installed while I had the Ditch Witch rental to cover the ditch with. Pushed too hard and I was literally exhausted when fortunately my son-in-law's 68 year old dad (about 16 years older than me at the time) came over and helped finish.

I decided I'm just not going to put myself in that position again, ever. I now wear a wet towel over my head (held on my my hat) and drink lots of water. When I have had enough I quit. Not as much gets done, but ....

I have gotten to the dizzy and feeling nauseated place a few times. Water just doesn't help when my body has lost electyrolytes, and even though they saw not to take salt pills, they do say salty snacks are OK.

What has always worked for me is to just pour some salt right out of the shaker into the palm of my hand and lick it up with my tongue. Repeat 2 or 3 times and then go back to drinking water. Sit down and in a few minutes I will be feeling a lot better. I can usually go back to doing whatever I was doing, but a lot easier.
