I believe I've solved a local poaching problem by drawing our deer herd away from 'their' properties. They usually would kill deer in August and September (gunshot). Oftem on my side of the fence despite Posted: No Hunting, Trespassing, Smoking, Fishing, Jacking Off or Camping. One guy had his house searched by the DNR but they didn't find anythng. Next day a mountain of deer flesh appeared dumped at the end of our dead-ended road. Girlfriend suggested I start drawing the deer away from their usual track using cracked corn piles and trails. This seems to have worked. Now they prance up at the front of the property and even behind the barn, no longer in the back where they were being picked off. She also suggested spraying deer repellant along our trails at the back to shoo the critters away. (Can you tell who the deer warden is in the family ?). This year we had a few 'survive', are well fed (prefer cracked corn to kernel, sugar beets, carrots or lollypops).
I still get to yank some deer stands out of my trees every year. They sell well on Craigslist. I tarnish them a bit now because I swear we wondered if a neighbor bought his own stand back TWICE !
