I am a union operator . I dig 20 ft deep , pull 2 boxes ,got a man in the hole and one on top . I might make 70 80 k yearly . Where do these coaches , players , criminals get off making MILLIONS . Just a question .
After reading your post........it occurs to me that you are overpaid.
I suggest you enjoy it while you have it. Don't worry about things you can't control.

Without trying to get into a political discussion, I was commenting about taxpayer support of professional sports facilities.

It's kind of a point of pride for me as an old Stock Car Racer that out local Stock Car racing club has managed to make it through thick and thin for 45 years now without any of the rather generous taxpayer support other sports have had and we built a new facility ten years that would be rated as one of the top five in North America.

Let's face it... machine operators are a dime a dozen, but a guy that can throw a baseball 90+mph into any point in a box 60 feet away 145 times in an afternoon is quite rare.

We da common man, de ain't.

And don't get worked up over it. 70k-80k ain't nothing to sneeze at. Its more than double average wages in most places. Count your blessings, have a beverage, enjoy yourself.... just don't watch a ball game.

Holy cow. When is the last time a pitcher threw a 145 pitch count? You are thinking back in th eday when guys like Bob Gibson did that on 4 days rest. Today --- no way Jose.

Yeah, you're right. Pitchers are babies now and rarely pitch 9.

I don't care what they might get paid, good for them. I just don't understand why they become glorified & hero's. Same go's for actor's and the like. You or anyone should be just as admired for working hard and doing a good job. It just doesn't work out that way.:confused3:

It's the way of the world, my friend.

If you've ever tried to be a good athlete at any sport, no matter how good you are, you'll always run into someone that's better than you.... and you'll admire them for their skill and celebrate their victories because you know how hard it is to do something like that well. I always enjoy someone making a great play in a sporting contest and cheer them on. I don't agree with the salaries of pro athletes, that's why I watch youth sports where it is more pure.

And when you think about it, you can't really compare athletic ability with being a good person. Plenty of great athletes are great people and plenty are not. There is no fame and glory in being a good person, spouse or parent, employee or citizen. The reward is sleeping well at night knowing you did your best, or the smile on a loved one's face when they know they can count on you. ;)

Athletes, I don't mind. Very few of them (in a very large group) actually make it to those super salaries, often spending years in minor leagues and such for very little money, then making the cut and reach the big bucks.

What I can't stand are the actors. While the same situations apply to them (very few make it to the big bucks, as a percentage) but once they get there, then they become self proclaimed experts on politics and environmental issues, and because they're "famous", too many kool-aid drinkers start swinging their votes and conversations to the actors views.

Chances of playing Pro Hockey in Ontario are 1 in 4000... ( 0.0003 % )
Chances of being one of those elite players that makes more than average in their career, about 1 in 12,000.
Chances of playing for more than a few years at the pro-level once you actually make it... not very good.

Believe me, they are worth it.
In the interest of reality ... x100 ~
