Jinma 284
Greetings,
I am a new member and am disappointed and somewhat intimidated to find that I have to split my Jinma 284. I have a severe engine oil leak coming out under the bell housing. It seems too bad a leak for an oil seal and the clutch is still working fine, so I'm not 100% sure that it is the rear oil seal, but what is for sure is that the tractor will need to be split. I'm hoping to find some detail on the procedure on this forum. I also have some hydraulic questions about my front loader, but that is a low priority concern at the moment.

I really think it should be moved to the Chinese tractor section. There has been a few guys split them for this issue and also for clutches. Some good info and pics.

Here's where I split my 204 last year CHINESE TRACTOR OWNERS CLUB FORUM - bad injector symptoms . Initially I was intimidated as are you but once into it, it wasn't all that bad. Not saying it's a job I'd like to do every year mind you but not hard  .
Having a flat coverered area to work, a couple of trolley jacks and the normal assortment of metric tools and being even somewhat mechanically inclined you should have no problem.
I'd have to say a couple of the most tedious areas were around the console and when assembling it getting the pilot shaft lined up with the pilot bearing.
I ran a tap thru all the holes as well as replaced the bolts with new metric (not knowing the quality of the origonals) and used blue Loctite both to prevent loosening and corrosion. If possable, I also went a bit longer figuring it'd give a bit more strength.
Any parts I needed I got from Tommy at Affordable Home of compact Jinma, Foton, and Koyker Tractors and Parts, Wood Chippers, Backhoes - Affordable Tractor Sales Company , as well as being a good source of parts, his crew is always willing to help and go the extra mile.
Any questions drop me a pm if you want, keeping in mind it was over a year ago (short memory syndrom LOL).....Mine

Mike,
Thanks for the post and link to your experience with the split. I did a search to try to find such posts on my own, but this one did not come up and it is quite helpful. I am going to put off tearing into it for a while to gather as much info as possible and to get a few other projects out of the way. I'm still confused by the fact that the oil leak is so severe and yet the clutch is working fine. I don't know if there is someplace else beside the seal where the oil can be coming from, but in any case it will require a split to find it.

If it's the same configuration as mine and I think it is, there's a possability it could be the cam shaft plug if you're leaning toward it not being the rear main seal. The plug is exactly like a welch plug and it's just pressed into the hole that the camshaft goes thru.
If you take off the loader mounts off the bellhousing, you can get a better look with a light and mirror thru the square hole. If you look on my post where I was working on mine, you'll see the plug that I've stuck a sheet metal screw in ready to pull out.
You're sure it's lube oil and not trans fluid? I'm not sure of the possabilities of this but it might (and I use the term 'might') be possable for the trans oil to come thru a bad seal. If someone tells you it's not possable, believe them instead of me :)......Mike

Mike,
Thanks again; just the sort of information I was looking for.

Unfortunately, I assume if it is a plug and not the seal, I will still have to split the tractor. I don't imagine it could be done through the inspection opening.
