I have a nubian mix, pregnant with her second kid. She's a bit of a pet and a major nuisance but I love her to death. About three weeks ago she had a mild discharge, I'm rubbng my hands together, all right here we go. Nothing. Happened again a few days ago. Still nothing. She's big as a house, and her bag is full to the point of bursting. She moves around well, but tends to rest a lot. Question is, are the discharge signs a red flag? All my other goats but her are pasture goats. I know they've been pregnant when I see them with a new kid. She's the first one I've really kept tabs on. The occasional discharge may be normal, I don't know. It's never been more than about a teaspoon. She's adopted a farrowing crate as her own personal place and I suspect that's where she'll drop when she gets ready, somewhere near there anyway, and it's way out back of the house, so I'm wearing a new path out there and back. I gave her a dose of goat drench twice in the last week. Can I relax, do you think?

Cindi:
I'll ask the little wifey tonight between her and our vet. they may know a little info to help you out, you may also try posting this on web page (hummm not sure I did that right) but they have a section there for far animals or pets and may get a better cross of folks to help with your question. (althought most of us belong to both sites /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif)

It's just getting light enough to see out there and I've been watching her move from spot to spot, which is not normal here lately. Restless. May be a good sign. I will check out that site, Thanks.

Cindi,
Occasional discharges are just a normal sign that she is going to very soon be in labor. I'm relatively new to raising goats myself and have found some excellent web sights that can tell you everything you need to know and then some about raising goats. I'm not sure how to post a link but I can give you the addresses of a few sights.

Goatweb.com
Fiascofarm.com

Hope these help, and good luck on the new one's

Oh yay! Well, that's the only thing I was worried about to tell you the truth. I was afraid it as a bad sign. But I will check out the sites you suggested. Thank you for taking the time to post them. If you want me to show you how to post a link e mail me, I'll be gald to tell you.

Our second (Oatmeal) had same situation. Occasional discharges and we thought problems. She was dragging the ground when she finally poped. April Fools day two years ago. Two healthy girls and a boy.
She nursed all to adult.

Big thing is that she is moving around and drinking/passing urine.

If this is her second, should not be a problem

You can tell the best how imminent the event is by the softening of the tendons on the upper side of her hips, right above the tail. You figure it out right after it happens, but eventually it makes sense....

I found some goat sites, and asked and had some Q's answered. The consensus was, she's okay, just wait. I did have four beautiful new babies come between last night and this morning though, from other nannies.

Congratulations on the baby goats.

I don't know if you found it already, but goatworld.com seemed to have a lot of info on the critters.

I was looking into getting some goats, but we have a peach orchard and I have heard and read that eating peach tree leaves would make goats deathly ill. I have put off getting the goats because about all our land is peach orchard. Anyone knows if there's any truth to that?
