This one in 72” model is 525lb. No way is it strong enough for my svl75. I think mtl’s grapple for my my svl is $1800.

No, it would be more suited for your Massey. I have an MTL and it does all that I need it to. I bought directly from the factory and paid $849 delivered... in hindsight I could have gone with the narrower model and saved 50 bucks. Some people here have more money than I do, I shopped hard before buying my used tractor and looked very hard at the EA before realizing that I can't justify paying for the name. The real deal breaker though was when I followed their link to their FB page... if you think they have a cult like following here, that was even worse.

Mmmmmm. I don't thinks so. Saying you can't justify "paying for the name" implies that the grapples are the same and you are shrewd for not spending more money just for a "name". That just isn't so. What you meant to say was your usage could not justify paying for the high quality steel instead of Mild steel and you were willing to take the extra weight "hit" of the mild steel grapple in exchange for the lower price. There is often a reason for a "cult like following", and that reason is because of the high quality delivered. Many people are willing to pay more money for that quality. Others are not willing to do so. But you are NOT just paying for a "name". You might convince yourself that is the case, but you sure not going to convince me.

Actually this whole thread was started more or less that a grapple is a grapple, and every grapple with the same general design is the same as the next one. And the EA equipment is sold because there is a "cult following" that makes them so popular.

Nothing could be further from the truth. EA makes sales because their grapples use superior steel, superior design and are the lightest, strongest grapples that are readily available. Now I am not saying the "cheap" grapples might not be fine for the usage you envision on using them. They are made with A36 steel and therefore since the steel is weaker, all of the elements of the grapple must be made thicker to stand up to the usage they must be put to.

For instance if you will be mostly picking up light loads where the extra weight of the grapple will not matter because your tractor will be able to handle it, and will not be picking up loads where the extra few hundred pounds will make the difference between picking up the load or not. But if you want the lightest strongest grapple you can buy then at least at this time the EA is the line to look at.

The lowest price is not the only criterion to selection of any product. Many people have found that out and often to regret.

Even at $500 more cost in material does it qualify more than 2.5x the cost? Dont know. One would have to buy both and put through the test. High tensile has its purpose but there is a give a take. I’ve looked through the weights and not seen all that much difference. High tensile steel develops cracks with no visible bending. Low tensile starts to bend with no cracks. As I entered into buying a grapple and wondered down the attachment rathole, its obvious of the cost differences with little proof of which way to go. Thicker steel and a little more weight and lower cost or thinner steel with a little less weight but much more cost. It does seem one manufacturer has made off pretty good at this website, hope they have thrown some golden tickets here.

And I agree, lowered cost is not the ultimate decider, nor is the higher. As proof always points to, the middle is usually place to land.

I didn’t buy a EA grapple mostly because they didn’t have a size rating I wanted and second because I don’t like the serrated teeth on the grapple. I did buy a Favor grapple that’s also high tensile steel. I had a junk grapple before and I didn’t want a repeat of having to weld it back together every time I used it. I’d say $3K for something that will provide a lifetime of service vs $1500 for something that’s iffy is worth it.

IMO...it's like the folks that tell themselves because they pay for SnapOn tools they are justifying the premium price they pay...
Like it or not it is a cult like following and shilling for them only makes the followers look like more gullible pigeons IMO...!

Personally I think a company found a honey hole to settle into. One of the biggest websites with mostly people looking for places to spend hobby money well. I’m just glad they sale from what I can tell, above average items. It would be sad otherwise.

For the price of an EA you also might want to look at the Land Pride... when I was shopping the two were comparable in price.
