I know it is green but who actually makes it ?

I recieved a catalog the other day that has bunches of component subassemblies in it. Many of you probably got it also, but I just can't remember the name. On the back cover, they were selling a Yanmar 42 hp diesel engine and specifically stated that it was the same engine used by John Deere. The picture is exactly like the engine in my 4610.

They also had standard and hydrostatic transmission and gear cases made by Dana and someone else that were advertised as being used in most lawn and garden tractors. With all these subassemblies being available on the open market, it would seem unlikely that any manufacturer would bother building a tractor from scratch. Someone told me once that all John Deere tractors under 40 hp were assembled in Germany. Never could verify that story however.

My Dealer says its the biguns made over the pond in Deutschland.

Deere has quite a few partnerships in the construction industry too. Take the excavators, which are made in a joint venture with Hitachi. Just a change in the paint color between the two. And the ADT (articulated dump trucks) are made in a joint venture with Bell, just change the decals. I believe that Cat is also in a joint venture with a Japanese company for its excavators too, just don't remember which one.

I broke down and looked it up. Mitsubishi. They have been partners since the mid 80s., but the book I have is from the mid 90s, so things may have changed since then.

According to their literature, LongAgribusiness'
Landtrac 300DTC and 360DTC have a Mitsubishi engine.

You will find yanmar engines in a lot of stufgf as well, heck for that matter a fair number of the Kubota engines that get imported wind up in chipper shreders, generators and lots of other goodies as well.
