The tiller weighs 670#. The manual for my tractor recommends a max tiller width of 54" with a weight of 550#, but the lift arm specs say it can lift a maximum of 1400# at 24" from the end of the lift arms.

It would seem the tiller is under the max lift weight but heaver than the recommendation for a tiller. I like the idea of removing some tines if it gets bogged down, but the weight difference confuses me. If it's supposed to be able to lift 1400 then why is the tiller recommendation only 550? I'm confused.

I think they use the recommeded weight do to traveling with it.. A 550lb imp bouncing while you go down the road would act like a 1000lb one..?

I wonder about the pto use and the clutch handling it? I have two stage clutch and very expensive to replace it. I do have the max width tiller on mine too, but it never bogged down...Jy >>

If you can do it anyway, then it's not too big!

"Well, which is it, young feller? You want I should freeze or get down on the ground? Mean to say, if'n I freeze, I can't rightly drop. And if'n I drop, I'm a-gonna be in motion. You see..."

I would be cautious. They put the specs on there for a reason. If your tractor is still under warranty this might void some repairs in the future. If it were me Id try and sell it outright and then go and buy one that would fit my tractor. JMO.

LOL If you have ANY doubt, don't do it. Send it to me and I will pay you triple what you paid for it sight unseen. ;)

No? ah well, worth a shot.

Seriously, if the workload exceeds your tractor capacity you may have to work slower. Compare cost per foot per hour and you still come out ahead unless you are going into commercial operation. I don't think the weight is a big deal except for traveling along a bumpy road. Go much slower if you have lots of bumps.

I just bought a used 62" for my B7500 which has 17hp at the pto . The manual says it can handle a 48" up to 450 pounds . This tiller weighs in at 460 pounds .
So far it handles my existing beds fine I have yet to try it on virgin ground , I will just take it nice and easy .
We also have a 7500 and a 60" Kubota tiller. It works fine where we have tilled before, but you have to slow down in new soil.

Since the price was right, by all means give it a try. Be sure your side chains on the lift arms are set up tight to limit shock loads when transporting and don't try any turns or curves when tilling. If it doesn't work, put out on Craigslist or somewhere to sell it out right before getting a smaller one. Dealer trade is going to take all the value on this one.
