I have never seen a "barber shop" (nor would I choose to frequent one if I found it) that did peticures.

Don't you remember that episode of the Andy Griffith Show when Floyd hired a manucurist(Barbara Eden)? /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif

(OK, maybe not.. we were one year old /forums/images/graemlins/tongue.gif)

Heck we didn't even have TV until I was about 7 years old. And I remember when the neighbors got COLOR TV. Batman was much better on their TV set.

For women it's not the destination that matters as much as the journey. Getting one's hair done is more of a social adventure and someone fussing over them. The stylist also is there to help them feel better about the whole world and their place in it.

We had one, but I wasn't allowed to watch it. It was only used for the news. My parents bought their first color TV after I moved out. Come to think of it, they also bought their first riding mower, leaf blower, snow blower and snow plow on a 4X4 landcruiser after I moved out, too. Hey, I think they were using me for cheap labor... /forums/images/graemlins/tongue.gif

Back to barbers...

My grandpa was a barber. My dad had his barber's license but was an architect. My uncle was a barber. My mom use to cut my hair because she didn't like the way they did it! /forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif

I've been cutting my own since 1986. Wife trimmed up the back. Now that I'm almost a full member of the Friar Tuck look alike club, I can't see giving someone $20.00 to "style" what's left! /forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Members of the "Carhart Clan" like myself, retain their "Mo-JO" forever.........................(you need to get some before it's too late for you !!)

I took my daughter to the hair "Salon" a while back to get fancied up for a big party. I was just gonna wait until she was done, pay the bill and be on my way, but 40 minutes later, I had a severe estrogen over dose from the smell, the piles of Cosmo magazine, and the conversation. I had to go out side and down to the next store to check out auto parts and tools. I came back 10 minutes later with my head much clearer. /forums/images/graemlins/cool.gif I used to go to the local barber until he closed on Saturdays, and then I bought my own clippers. Now he is open again on Saturdays, but I found I can buzz off my hair in less than 5 minutes with the #3 spacer and be done with it for another 5-6 weeks. I don't have enough hair to style, so why pay $20-30 at a salon, or even $10-12 to a barber. And I would never invest 40 or more minutes on a haircut unless the girl was absolutely OUTSTANDINGLY beautiful, and even then, I'd probably pass.

LOL, after my haircut I walked out the front door of the salon, made a hard left turn and walked into Mid Town Hardware to get back to a dose of reality and a bag of nuts and bolts for a project.

Mid Town Hardware, in downtown Lowell, is one of those old hardware stores with EVERYTHING packed in there somewhere. This is the kind with a basement and an upstairs so if you can't find what you need, they call one of the "kids" to run up (or down) and get you the part. Believe it or not, I walked in there a couple years ago and needed a 15" windshield wiper assembly for my Avanti convertible . . . they had 1 left in stock. It was a perfect match (except it wasn't broken like the one on my car) It was dusty as heck, but it was in perfect condition under the dust.

I'm impressed you lasted 40 minutes. I'd get out before the smell stuck to me and caused embarassment in the hardware store.

I couldn't agree more! I bought my Wahl trimmer 10 years ago for $20. I put on the #1 comb, start at my chin and go all the way over to my collar. Takes about 5 minutes every 2 weeks. The last "salon" I went to (15 yrs ago) charged me $25 for the same thing. Never again, I said and bought my first trimmer. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif
