John Deere 2320
Last night I had an experience that reinforced my belief that I made absolutely, positively, without-a-doubt the correct decision in buying a 2320 over anything "smaller".

A friend of mine picked up some HoofGrid for me and I went over to pick it up with my truck. HoofGrid is a plastic grid system used to create mud-free areas for horses. There was a lot to unload so I brought over my loader forks because my friend has a tractor -- a JD 2210. I figured since the stuff was already on pallets, using the tractor would make things go much faster. My share was only 20 sheets, which was probably about 350-400lbs. The 2210 was able to pull the skid off the truck ok, but I felt so unstable. It had loaded rear tires, but I had that light and airy feeling in the tail. I was able to move the load from truck to truck but the 2210 seemed to be working awfully hard and I moved VERY slowly since the ground was uneven. Knowing about what the load limit was, we slowly unloaded the rest of the grid and stacked it on the ground.

While the 2210 is a good machine (and I'm sure the 2305 as well), I am so glad I got the 2320 instead. I move things around on pallets all the time (blocks, concrete, firewood, plants) and I don't think the 2210/2305 would have been enough tractor. Aside from the lifting limit of the FEL, the physically smaller size of the tractor just felt wrong. Sure, it would have been more stable with a ballast box, but I do similar tasks with my 2320 w/o a ballast box and don't feel that unstable.

Not that I had any real doubts before but this seals the deal. The 2320 is the perfect machine for me:)

My 2320 was defective from the factory. Just got it back from the dealer. Am going to move some gravel this weekend if the trucker gets it delivered. Look forward to working the little tractor. What little I have used mine, I have enjoyed it much.

Have fun.

It's ALL about the ballast. With enough weight on the rear, the 2210 would have performed flawlessly with this particular job. You just need the weight.....

The 2305 and 2320 have the same loader, same engine, and same hydro flow (+- a few tenths gpm).

Greenster hit the nail on the head! Need ballast - I would suggest adding it to your 2320 to help keep the "shiny side up".

Good luck!

Roger that on the ballast. Have a JD box filled with concrete for mine.

My comparison was a 2210 to the 2320. Looking back at my post, I sort of lumped the 2210 and 2305 together which was probably not correct. Just because the 2305 was Deere's replacement to the 2210 does not mean that they are the same machine.

Looking at the specs again per the Deere website, you are correct in that the 2305 and the 2320 have the same loader, engine and hydraulic output. However, the website shows different lift capacity for the 200CX on a 2305 vs 200CX on a 2320. Why? I have no idea.

As for the ballast box, I've been thinking about getting one for a while. For now, I generally put on my box blade to get more weight on the back if I know I'm doing loader work. It's not ideal but seems to work fine. I wished I had that BB with me to put on the 2210 when I was unloading. It would have been much more stable that way.

I use my "heavy" built 4ft box blade as "ballast" on my 2305. Most likely the difference in loader capacity has nothing to do with the loader or hydro flow, but instead with front tire weight capacity. The 2305 uses smaller "low profile" style front tires versus the more "traditional" front tires used on the 2320/2520.
