Dalis, trying to buy real estate in the USA from Norway is like tuning a shortwave radio. You get a lot of background noise until you get right on the right frequency. I think you know what I mean by "background noise." Like when tuning the radio, you just ignore the noise.
I think there are lots of good deals to be had in the USA near beach resort towns or nearby to ski resort towns. From New York's Adirondack Mountains in Upstate NY, to the Pocono Mountains in PA, and the Blue Ridge Mountains in Virginia, you'll find many areas to do just what you want to do that are not beach related and are perfect for watching the seasons change and wildlife. They are all near to the East Coast of the USA and more manageable for travel than deeper within U.S. boundaries. Of course, if you want to live near the water, the East Coast of the USA has about everything and every kind of weather your heart could desire. From Maine to Florida, you won't be disappointed.
Is the financial picture in the USA stable? I'd say yes, but interest rates are creeping back up. Borrowing money is gonna cost a bit more. However, if you make a wise investment, I don't think you'll get upside-down on the mortgage and end up owing more than the property is worth. It's super hard work to do all this from afar. I would say that you really cannot trust real estate people to do that searching for you. They are in this business to sell real estate. Every realtor is gonna tell you that what they have to offer is the best. Like car salesmen, that's just the nature of the beast.
