Mikim's right, you'll definitely need to start long term planning for a SAU(spousal avoidance unit) immediately!

Look for a used JD 790 if you can find one near you. Get the FEL too while your at it. You came to the right place to get information and to let us help you spend your money.

I'm sorry, but that won't cut it .... you will NEED a barn to store tractor & implements ... a very large barn because implements breed when you leave them alone in the dark, and you always end up with more than you currently have room for.

Mike that is hands down the best justification I have ever seen. However as I am just starting, I need mine to multiply!!

I just wish my money multiplied like rabbits. Then i could afford a tractor of my own to work up the food plots, mow, etc. A four-wheeler is not the way to go. After plowing with our 4-wheeler, I feel like i have been abused all over.

Happy tractoring, Colin

Welcome to TBN :D!. My property profile, location, and soil condition is similar to yours. I have had no problems brush hogging ~7+ A's, hauling wood, dragging trees, pulling up stuff, moving large semi-immovable (initially) objects, moving a lot of material, tilling gardens, maintaining a 150+ foot gravel driveway/parking area, and moving snow with a 29 HP 4WD tractor (23+ PTO HP). I have a 58" tiller, 60" rotary cutter, 96" landscape rake, a 60" heavy duty quick attach FEL with a cutting bar (tooth bar ordered), and a pending purchase of a 60" box blade to maintain my property. $10K will restrict options, but there are a lot of good quality used tractors out there that will meet your perceived needs. You will have to get used to worn knees and elbows as you learn to grovel and kowtow to "She Who Must Be Obeyed a.k.a. Comptroller and in some cases Social Control Agent ". Whining and and pouting really does not work as well :(. The fact that you are tool handy will help with tractor maintenance as well as the possible purchase of some of those Asian and/or gray market tractors. Please give us more information about your intended near and long term uses and the membership of TBN will help ;you spend your money . Jay

I started much like you....

Cept i looked for about a month online for 10K machine, while i also learned what a 10K machine would do, and how much tractor i would likely need.

Finnally came to the relaztion i needed more like a 15K used tractor. But in hindsite i wish i had budged 20K so i could get the implements i needed up front and spend more time useing them. ive "made due" for far to long IMHO with what ive got....

Hey Rob! I too am a tractohaulic. It's been over 30 minutes since my last ride. I'm starting to shake uncontrollably. I'm in to the hard stuff personally.....You know, those older farm tractors. I farmed for 35+ years as a way of preventing excessive wealth from spoiling me. You too can hold a tight limit on accumulated cash with hard work and a friendly neighborhood dealer.

I'm an advocate of buying good used tractors from the "golden age of farm power", the 60's and 70's. There's still millions of them left and in fine shape. You can even find one that's a basket case that'll require a big shop FULL of shiny new tools to restore! A nice 40/50 HP classic from that era will set you back less than $5000 in most cases, leaving room for dozens of handy implements to hang on the back of your new/old workhorse.

Hi Rob! I am also a tractorhaulic. It's been 5 hours and 24 minutes since my last ride. :D It's hard to sleep at night dreaming of all the attachments, accessories, tools, and projects waiting for me.

Pictures always help to stimulate the alpha waves. ;) You've got the right idea of moving to an area where you "NEED" the tractor and all of it's family.

We're available 365/24/7. Welcome to TBN! We're here to hep ya.

We have a 1 point, a 2 point, a 3 point all the way up to a 12 point (big cultivator) plan, As you can imagine, iron addiction is somewhat like other addictions (probably just as expensive, but more time consurming...). Let me start: Hi, my name is BobG and I'm an iron addict.....Welcome! BobG in VA

Hi Rob. I also started out with the budget of 10K, but, then it doubled, then tripled. Getting injured doing manually what the tractor can do easily is the quickest way to double the budget. To triple the budget you will have to ....well..... let's just say you will have to buy the book.:D
