Norris, that looks like a much improved harvest. Broken limbs can sometimes be prevented with supports, but the fruit is often small. Pruning and thinning produces the best fruit.

My brother gave me about a peck of pear-apples a few weeks ago. They were hard as rocks, so I let them sit out on the counter for over two weeks until they started softening up. I peeled one and it was about tasteless. My wife used them to make preserves and one pie. But following the pie directions, the fruit was still crunchy.

I love pears, but I want them tasty and juicy. If they are hard and tasteless, I just toss them.

Nice!

Hoping to start my little fruit/nut orchard this fall...may need some tips on pruning eventually.

Caution,,,I killed our pear with one small application of roundup near it. they are so sensitive..I had continiously trimmed it and thinned the fruit when it clustered, it produced big fruits.. My wife has not forgiven me for killing" her Pear preserves tree", they sure were yummyl Now,we beg the hard fruits from friends when they have too many.

The kindness and generosity of my TBN friends seems to be endless. Such is the case of Norris (gotrocks). I was surprised late last week with a phone call from him in Alabama. He was calling to tell me he was sending me some of his delicious Moonglow pears. How lucky can you get?:D

The pears arrived yesterday afternoon from UPS. Norris had packed them perfectly in a fruit shipping container and they arrived in perfect conditon. When I opened the box, I was stunned by the size of the pears. We may have things big in Texas, but I can tell you that they grow pears BIG in Alabama. I sliced a bite off of one of the pears, and the taste was heavenly: juicy, sweet, and perfect texture.

So, I thought I'd post a picture of the pears compared in size to a large coffee cup. These are wonderful and Kathy and I will surely enjoy them.:licking::cloud9:

So far this year I planted (all of them already fruiting)2 Sekel dwarf pear trees, 1 dwarf alberta peach tree, 1 concord grape vine and one native blueberry bush on top of the hazel nuts , rasberry and blackberries that already grow.

Next year I am going to plant 2 apple trees, two cherrry trees, one more peach tree and a strawberry patch.

I also planted 18 green giants and one weeping willow tree.

Then the following year comes the flowery stuff.....
