why not make something like this, i have used my tractor to move small cars with theses forks with extensions slid over them, and they handle most any rock i can get them under

Steve, No, I didn't have any plans for the front end loader. I just looked at a lot of loaders, looked at my tractor for long periods of time and then began fabing up the lift arms out of wood to work out all of my piviot points, etc. In addition, I designed linkage that keeps the bucket at the same angle as you raise and lower the bucket.

And no again, I'm not a professional welder, but I do enjoy building/designing/modifing things as well as welding.

In response to my original post:

I stopped at TSC today (Tractor Supply Co.) and looked at their carryall attachments. They have the usual King Kutter brand which is rated for 1,000 lbs. Well, I already bent up one of those, so thats no good. Then I saw something else. They have a 3 pt square bale carrier that looks just like a carryall except the arms are 40 in apart as opposed to 25 in apart like on the carryall. It's rated for 2,000 lbs. This would work great if the arms were'nt so far apart.

I haven't actually tested them side by side, but I would think that you gain some strength from the round tubing (if the wall thickness is comparable to that of the angle). However, the attachment method of the cat1 lift pins looks to add more strength than that of the tubing itself. Not only is there no hole through the frame to compromise the integrity of the frame, but the mounting tab for the cat1 lift pin actually reinforces the frame. This seems to be one of the major failure points from the picture you posted. Keep in mind that the tab does nothing to strengthen the angle stock forks, so you still need to keep the center of gravity of the load as close to the frame as possible to shorten the torque arm that your load uses to stress the implement. For seriously heavy loads, solid lift truck type forks would be much preferred.

That looks like it will work, Jerry, but what's the maximum lift of your 3PH? I think you would want a carry-all that's rated for several hundred pounds above your lift capacity. I'm guessing that the TC30's lift is about 1500#, so that might be the perfect carry-all for you. /forums/images/graemlins/cool.gif

I moved a similar size/shape rock by wrapping the chain around the rock horizontally. I was in a similar situation where I couldn't get the chain underneath, once I got it on snug it pulled real smooth without to much gouging of the turf. You'd be surprised how well that thick chain will grab hold of any little indent or groove in the rock and hold on.

If you have a bottle jack, dig a hole under the side of the rock in the direction you want it to go. Raise the end of the rock with the jack. Place rollers under the rock, 2 inch pipe would work well. Lower the rock on the rollers and attach the chain. Your tractor will pull the rock easily. Have a helper or two to move the rollers to the front of the rock as you progress. Go slowly so no one gets hurt and you don't run off your rollers. It will take a little time but you can move that rock where you want it.

Hey, it looks like the solution was being hammered out right in front of my nose in the attachments forum. 3 pt Pallet Mover .
King Kutter DOES make a heavier carryall called a 'Pallet Mover', its rated for 2,000 lbs as opposed to 1,000 lbs for their carryall. My store does'nt have one in stock, but that's what special orders are for /forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif

Jerry here in Ohio we pull little stones like that out of our gardens. If we don't they tend to multiply quickly ;-)

Don't throw the carry all out. Dig out the gas torches and tweak it a bit. Then dig out the stick welder and a bit o' square stock and play. It will only get better.......

Mike, I cut out the bent up section and patched in a new piece of the same material. I'm not going to reinforce it, I'm just going to relegate it to lighter duty chores. I have the heavy duty pallet mover on order. Pallet mover (2,000 lb capacity), shown below.

Jerry I have one similar to that ordered for my 17LA FEL. We unload a lot of trucks here at the ranch bringing in cases of merchandise and have always asked for trucks equipped with power lift gates. Since they cost more to deliver the same goods I immediately saw a need for the pallet forks myself. I'm confident that I will recoup my initial investment over the years to come.
