sweet! That is what I was thinking about doing but with push mowers.
This might be even better. IT ake it they are self propelled? How do you get them all going the same speed or how did you fix that?
Thanks

Bob, Princess 77 is sold as seed. The seed is pricey, but then, it takes a lot of bermuda seed to make up some weight. Check here for all the info. Seedland

They are self propelled but when cutting they are towed by the tractor with the drive clutched in, so I doesnt matter about the speed. The self propultion is great cos if you get stuck up a too steep of a hill you put them in drive and it drives you out, also you can unhitch and drive them individually into the shed or whatever.
The thing that makes them so great is that you dont rely on traction to the ground to turn the blades, the engine does that for you. I tow them with a 12 Hp tractor.
the mowers cost total £7, all worked with little effort, on has a new engine, but that was for fun and not necessary.
I actually never use them, so if you wanna collect theyre for sale /forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif

murph,

I wouldn't recommend a reel mower for northern climate grasses. the "cool season" grasses like to be cut at ~3". The reel mowers excell at 1" and less.

Food for thought...

Oh man, you just dampened my dreams. Really it won't work that great here in Minnesota?? I always wanted a pull type mower and thought this would be the cat's meow. Wow we use to mow my grandma's farm with reel mowers all the time. In fact my neighbor had one also for many years with a motor on it. Oh well back to the drawing board.

I'm not saying you can't use one, just that your MMM is likely the better tool for the job... At the very least, try before you buy. /forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif

Bob.

Princess 77 is rated for practice greens. It won't quite hang with the sod type hybrids such as Tifgreen, but should compare favorably to Tifway. It's still amazing for a seed turf. It's the top-rated seed type bermudagrass hybrid right now. You can save a ton of money by using seed over sod. Princess 77 seed costs ~20-$25 per 1000 sq feet if I remember right. Compare that with Tifgreen or Tifway!

Murph,

You might want to ask ground maintaince about the northern grasses at golf courses in your area. In my college years I worked for a large golf coarse (northwest Illinois) and we used large reel mowers pulled by tractors for all the 'ruff' grass which was Kentucky bluegrass (I think) at around 2 inches tall (maybe taller). We mowed probably once every 2 or 3 days so you would be mowing twice as much. I would not give up just yet.

Thanks,
Mike
