They aren't new, but I would suggest looking at the grey market Yanmars. They can usually be purchased in good condition in the $500-$750 range. I've had mine for about 4 years now and probably till 1.5-2 acres a year in conditions varying from deep topsoil to sodded heavy clay. Mine will "walk" over rocks and roots it can't churn out. I run a 53" wide unit behind my JD770 (20 PTO HP) with no problems so I think you could go with at least a 60" unit.
The only major caveat I have found to the Yanmar tillers is that they sometimes take a little work to get them mounted on some tractors correctly. I don't know about parts, b/c so far I haven't needed any. Oh yeah, unless you want to do some fab work, make sure you get a 3 pnt model and not a 2 pnt model.
