Farmer, please start a thread and post pics along the way. I'd love to see it and get ideas.

Will do. Cedar is at mill now to drop some popular and hope to start dirt work tomorrow or Saturday.

I built some doors and took care of a bunch of odds & ends yesterday and today. I'm getting close to the end, I just need to get the siding on but that will probably have to wait until next weekend.

Could you post some pictures of the structure of the doors and how you sealed them against floor.

The little door does look good. I will bet that over time it comes in handy too. I have a similar shed but just a bit larger. Use the loft to store the kids' bikes and lawn furniture in winter; ski box, kid's sleds, and snow shovels in summer, plus some other long term storage that I want out of my way. It gives me better use of the space on the main level year round. I find though, that there are times when I am trying to make my way over top of everything to get to some item stored at the far side, that i wish i had a little door like that accessible from the outside so I could get at it from the other side. You will probably find it handy as well as decorative.

It has been a couple of weeks since I updated the thread so I thought I'd post a couple of pictures from this morning.

I found some cedar clapboards on craigslist, they are new but have been sitting around for a while as evident in the pictures. I knew I'd need a little more but buying the old material saved me about $1100. I'm probably not going to get around to painting until the Spring.

I have to wait until tomorrow to pick up the rest of the siding that i need.

Kevin

Even if you aren't going to paint right now I would at least caulk the heck out of it to make it water tight.

That is a good point. It is supposed to be warm this week so I'll try to get that done by the end of the week.

No permits or codes if you are outside city limits here in East Texas, but I still try to build to code if I don't have to.......

Eddie

Did that when we lived in Grand Saline, outside city limits and now that we're outside city limits in West Texas, the same applies though I do my darndest to construct a durable/stable/contained structure for the equipment and such. Lately I've been looking at the portables that a few companies are building with warranties and wondering if that investment, by the time all is said and done, doesn't equal the time and material and back breaking work we, as rural folk, put in. There are 3 or 4 reputable companies that will construct and then haul/install to your specs. Decisions/decisions ;)
