I haven't read the entire thread, but my 95 Blazer with the 4.3 was running like crap also. I bought it brand new, and it only has 60,000 miles on it now.
I took my EGR valve out and sprayed it with carb cleaner. It was all carboned up, and the spray loosened it up. I put it back in and it is running good again. /forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif

You need to drive your truck more. You need to drive your truck more. No way, My son just informed me that he got 22 mpg on his way back to D.C. I use to get around 19-20 tops on a trip. Maybe he is lighter on the throttle than I am.
