Yep, I know what your father is talking about. The ones I used to work beside were full electric toggles. Toggles for everything. The operator had a bar running horizontally across the dash in front of him. He would place both hands on the bar and grab the toggles between his fingers. When he wanted to steer he just move his hand a little in the direction he wanted to go and it moved the switch. Sounds easy doesn't it? And it probably would have been if the contacts didn't stick often. I watched them run off haul roads and into the ditches. I watch them start a turn and not be able stop it because the contacts stuck. At first I was kind of worried about them but after a while it was entertaining to see.
