In June I moved into a friends house when he was activated by his National Guard unit and went to Afghanistan for 18 months. He has 4 horses I am taking care of. I can saddle the rideable horse and ride him, but I always have trouble with the bridle and I am not sure that I am getting it on correctly. Could someone please post a picture of a bridled horse for me to see? Thanks!

With a bit (it goes in the mouth) or without? Main strap straight up and behind the ears, one over the eyes around the forehead, and a buckled strap under the rear jawbone. Two reins back for the rider.

How about a pic of what you have? /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif

I'd be real worried, if I was your friend. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Also, pics of bridles are in the 'related links' above these thread messages you can click on.

Maybe he will get back before I get deployed. Here is a picture of Tucker from this afternoon.

From what the dark photo shows....looks like you've got it right. I assume this is the same bridle that your deployed friend used? If not, stongly recommend you use what he/she used. The horse may no take too well to a different bridle, particularly if the bit is different (snaffle, split, bar, chain, etc.).

Thanks for caring for both our troops and their horses!

Brent,

It appears to be on right, the throat lash (strap under throat) may be a little tight. You should be able to get 4 fingers under this strap.
I am not sure that you should be riding a horse without some supervision though based on your question. But good luck and make sure you wear a motor bike helmet.

I had a dark horse like that once, and her name was Shadow.

I had to brighten up the pic a bit, but it appears you are good to go and have it on right.

I agree with Vin, the chin strap looks too tight.

Also, unless the picture happened to catch the horse's mouth in a funny position, the bit looks too tight, especially with the reins being slack. In other words, the bit looks like the reins are being pulled on.

Howdy Brent, Good for U! BTW, I echo all other post & looks like bridle is OK! Let me say this constructively(is that a word)! A horse is a very sensitive & intelligent animal that can fell fear or doubt in others! The horse probably feels uncertainty in u & is playing off that! Theres not enough room or time for someone to try telling u about horses on 1 message so I suggest U go to a search mode & find someone that does this and follow instructions, get magazines & read BUT MOST OF ALL, remmeber they are animals & don't take things for granted because U can(anyone/ the novice or the expert rider) can get hurt ! Boy a guy can get alot of advise by just asking if bridle looks right!!

I think you are correct too, and the straps are adjusted too short.
Maybe this bridle is for a smaller horse of the 4.
