Cut form the back. Plywood blade. Masking tape on the good side. Start cutting from the front edge toward the back, then over the lip for the back splash. Make sure someone holds the cut edge. Very easy to do and looks nice.

I'm curious how you would use a router on a laminate counter top? The ones I've done are pre-formed with a backsplash from Home Depot and Lowes.

I can't figure out how you would cut the backsplash with a router?

Mornin Eddie,
It would be two seperate setups with a straightedge. You could also use a downward spiral bit to cut through the formica so as not to lift the formica, instead your pushing in the downward direction. The back splash would have to be cut from the backside obviously.

The straight edge is the key. Don't cut until you have it positioned exactly right, and then make your first pass very, very shallow. This way you can double check your measurements before you cut all the way through it.

And most important is to make certain your final (or only) cut JUST barely clears (protrudes) through the material.
