Received my roll ROPS Monday afternoon, mounted it on the tractor Yesterday morning with a minimum of headscratching.

I'll second Piddling's report. Very simple and straightforward installation completed by one person - almost as if the design engineers knew they would have to install it themselves.

Had to remove the fenders to get access and clearance to attach the axle brackets, but that was the extent of the dissassembly needed.

Step by step instructions are a single page, fairly cursory, and probably unnecessary due to clear and complete line drawings of the assembly.

If you don't have an ROPS on your machine, get one! The cost is not insignificant, but if/when you find yourself needing it, the cost becomes a pittance!

I second all those saying to use the ROPS AND seat belt. A friend of mine is an engineer and was on a very large project a couple of years ago. He had a worker who didn't want to wear the seat belt on a lift truck. The sad part is that the worker broke about every rule in the book. He was taking a big load across the side of a hill with the load lifted as high as the boom would go. You can see this coming, but the lift truck began to tip and the operator jumped clear of the machine. Unfortunately he jumped right into the side of the load he was carrying and it split his head wide open. He was killed instantly but that didn't help the people left on the scene. My friend was really devastated by the incident and they also lost the job - OSHA related.

My point is the same as many others - you can't jump free fast or accurately enough. Use that seat belt every time - even on flat ground.

Tom, I didn't have to remove the fenders but I did use three socket extensions to make one long enough to tighten nuts on the new fender U bolts.

Has anyone here installed a ROPS on their 1510D ? I'm looking for some good detailed photos of the installation.

I plan to as soon as I can comfortably spend the money. The one for the 1510 will be available after Oct. 1. I know Wayne (LMTC) will be able to get you one.

I doubt anyone can show you a picture yet since it isn't available. Wayne did have the first one in and sold it right away, so someone has one.

All of the ROPS come with clear instructions. They are relatively straight forward to mount. An extra person can be helpful to hold during assembly, but not necessary.

Adam, I haven't had any real traction problems but thinking back over this dry summer I've only used the rotary mower when conditions were optimum for gripping the pasture surface. My problem yesterday, mentioned in an earlier post, was due to soggy soil and trying to back up a steep hillside to my makeshift Yanmar garage. I probably could have made it up the hill with 4wd but in my situation I could have easily just let the tractor remain on the hillside until the ground dried out. As it turned out, I found a way around the hillside through a blackberry thicket. Few things more enjoyable than watching the exhaust pipe bend a blackberry stalk very sharply and wondering where it's going to slap you when it lets go.

I considered purchasing a four wheel drive tractor but my experience with them (SUVs and pickups) has been they are somewhat trouble prone and expensive to repair.

Also, I'm retired and can wait for good, dry mowing conditions - if not this week, next or the next after that. I do not have the tires loaded.

I'll support Wayne's comments without reservation. Anyone with a normal amount of physical coordination and a trace of mechanical aptitude should be able to successfully install one of those ROPS. And I'd venture that anyone owning one of these 20+ year old tractors should at least have that trace.

I didn't weigh them, but I doubt that the heavier of the two main components of mine went much over 50/60 lbs. So, as Wayne said, although a second pair of hands could be helpful at a couple of points, with either a reasonable amount of upper body strength or some other form of hoist or support, a helper isn't absolutely necessary.

Until somebody posts those photos maybe this will do.

In March 2006 I posted photos of the ROPS installation on my YM240 (US version of YM2000).

Link - YM2000 ROPS installation.

I didn't take a photo of it halfway on, so I'll emphasize it was simple. I temporarily disconnected the 3ph upper link and as I recall, the vertical rod that lifts the right side 3pt arm to make more work space. Nothing to it.

I have the same rops that Wayne sells on my yanmar FX235-D It was a pretty straight forward install (just bolt it on) thats all. I was really amazed by how nice it was formed,folded,ect..

How ever my recomendations are to give it 2 coats of paint to match your tractor BEFORE you install it. Remember this rops is going to get scratched on trees, door ways, and what ever you dont see.

Im real happy with mine, more than my $$$ worth
