thank you so much. this really helped me decide. ivwill go with yanmar open station 359. thanks

Just so you know, the added hp of the 359 is only going to be of aid with pto implements. Whatever you do with say a cutter or tiller, you'll be able to do just a little faster with added pto hp as your implements can be a bit wider.

My tractor is listed as 28 engine hp. It will drag in an entire 15" wide, 60' tall oak in one shot because it weighs close to 4000 lbs.. Unlike a car, engine hp in a tractor does not mean as much as far as pull or push power because we are dealing with such low hp numbers. You would need a bigger set of tires or more weight in the back as many, many times you will lose traction first rather than the ability to do work. The 347 and 359 have the same size tires. The 347 gives you a bit more pump capacity which is helpful with lift capacities. They seem to have the same figures here as well.

Weight is the key in heavy work. If pto power is not considered, a 14 hp , 4000 lb tractor will out-pull a 30 hp 2500 lb one. Hp is meaningless if your tires are spinning. What is evident however is that tractor manufacturers get into the same hp races as the car manufacturers do. In tractors, its akin to counting freckles.

Only reason I leaned to the 359 was because of its cab. Thought that might come in handy in Texas. If they had a 347C on the lot, I'd point you to that one because what you described as to its jobs, doesn't seem to need more hp as it does weight added. I do share your concern with a cabbed tractor in the woods. Don't know how open the woods of Texas are, but if they are as dense as N.E. woods, I might forego the cab as well and do my open field work in the Texas winter which is more like our fall.

I have the YT359C.

It's a great machine and extremely user friendly. I wish Yanmar would make a true utility tractor made just like it.

If you are mowing a bunch, get a cab. If you want to spend hours on the tractor in the Sun in TX, get a cab. If you have lots of stinging insects on your property, get a cab. If it is really windy and dusty, get a cab. If you have respiratory issues of any kind, get a cab. I would not worry much about the trees in the cab. You should get used to it.

If you are doing tasks that require you to constantly get off the machine, dont get a cab. If you want the best visibility dont get a cab.

I'd definitely go with the Yanmar as well. The return is there as that is a durable piece that is going to last you long-term. If pricing is an issue for you there's always financing options available out there. If you have a tough time finding financing options I could help steer you in the right direction to make it more cost effective. Definitely a nice rig to go with though, great choice!

Soft fleshy things are just as susceptible, possibly more so, than a cab. :) Depending on what you're doing in the woods, a cab may not be as big of a negative as you may think.

Hello you all

I am not an expert in tractors, as a matter fact I am clueless.
I am going to retire from the Navy in 3 month and I just bought 25 acres mostly small mesquite.
I would like to have my retirement as quiet as possible. I been looking at Yanmar 347 and 359 for a long while now.
I got the Yanmar 2019 YT347 ROPS for $27,250 and the New YT359 Cab leftover 2018 for $35,250.
By the way the lot is mostly flat in TX, not rocky.

What is your take? What would be more cost effective or more bang for the money?

Thank you in advance.

There is no wrong choice there. That said, I would trim a few tree limbs and go with the cab if it is in the budget. Add the heat coming off the engine to a Texas day and it will be more than a little oppressive.

Thank you so much for your input. I am leaning to the 359 my only concern is the reliability and the service as the brand is fairly new in the US.
Thank you for taking you time.

Yanmar has been around forever, they used to, and still may for all I know, build tractors for John Deere. From what I understand they are top of the line in engineering and manufacturing. I think you will be fine.
