I found a sweet piece if semi truck retread on my way to work today. I figured I could mount it on the bottom of the cutting edge of my snow blade, the question is...How do I cut it? I was thinking sawzall because of the steel belting, but what do you guys think?

Sawzall will cut tread, maybe less teeth blade so it won't gum up..one end of thread in vice and lightly pull the other end while cutting.

Zip cut, you're going to have to keep the cut open as you move along gonna be a tad smokey tho. Don't think a sawzall will cut the wire, it'll just catch the teeth and vibrate.....Mike

I did this 2 years ago and it works nicely for my purposes - I have grass, gravel and blacktop areas that I need to clear without ripping them up. I used a reciprocating saw (Milwaukee) with a hacksaw blade. It cut like buddah. You will need to get longer plow bolts to put the cutting edge back on. Measure the tread thickness and add that to the length of your present bolts. Luckily a local hardware store had some in stock. I used a brace & bit to cut the bolt holes, which worked surprisingly well.

Jig saw will work but U need to lube to prevent binding.
WD-40 makes good lube as will liquid soap.
I have also used sharp box cutters with a helper pulling sideways.
Forget using a skill saw, it binds.

The recap would not have the wire as that is in the carcass, so you should be OK.

I use the sawzall and vice method already mentioned. It takes some time but is the best I have found. I cut them down to use for the rubber edge on my plow wings for my truck mount plow.

Another good use for re-tread is for a dnow deflector across the top IF you have a truck plow. Tractors dont really go fast enough to benifit though.

i find that the hacksaw blades work the best they cut wood a little slower but they go threw nails a thousand times better i always wanted to know how to work tires

If it is, in fact, the recap, no wire to cut, as you say. However, most of what you see along the road that lots of people think is recap is actually the original tread and carcass; not a recap at all.

Well I guess I was wrong in my OP does have the wire.

Another question does it matter which way I put mount it to the blade? Tread in or tread out?
