Oil & Fuel I put car gas in my Kubota diesel!

Wow, that's worse than hydraulic fluid in my beer, which has been know to happen,

Were you hoping the anti-foam properties of Hyd fluid would work on the beer ? ;)

Drink safe.

Yeah, I once put maple syrup in my coffee, thinking it was rum.

One time my little 5 year-old came around the corner into the kitchen, spotted a glass of apple juice on the counter (she loved apple juice), grabbed it, and took a big drink. Only problem was, I was just about to add some Ginger Ale to it, because I was just making myself a Rye and Ginger. Poor kid - she sure spit out that whiskey fast! 10 years later, she still loves to hear that story!

Meanwhile, back at the ranch, here is how I saved my tractor. I siphoned out the fuel tank, but of course you cannot get it all, so then I uncovered part of the engine cover. (Just enough to get at the fuel filter, otherwise I would have had to take the grille guard off and maybe even the FEL.) Then, I disconnected the fuel filter and shook out the gas. Then, I turned the key part way, which fortunately starts the fuel pump, and which conveniently pumped out the rest of the gas in the tank. Then I filled the tank with fresh diesel (bought today), and ran the fuel pump again for a while. Then I put it all back together, crossed my fingers and toes, and fired it up. It ran rough for maybe 5 seconds then smoothed out and ran like a top. Who could ask for anything more?:cool2:

Thanks again guys, for all the help. Long live TBN!

I ruined the head of a 970 JD because I put gas in a yellow can with good intentions but forgot after a week. After a new reworked head all was well but I learned my lesson. No gas in a yellow can even if I say to myself "I'll dump it when I get home".

What's done, is done. It may be fine. Worrying right now, won't help anyway. Wait until you know you for sure you have damage.

Carefully drain and re-fill it with diesel, crack the injector lines, to bleed out the gasoline, and run it. See what happens.

If you cannot easily drain the line just crack it at the injectors. After changing everything you can PROBABLY just leave the injectors cracked and pump (crank the engine) until good diesel squirts out. It might be worthwhile to make an effort to buy some off-road diesel so you can see the red coming out.

No No No please Do not crank the engine, pumping more gas through the fuel injection pump will cause more drama if it hasn'r already done so (the fuel injection pump relies on Diesel too for lubrication ) - instead remove (later replace) the fuel filter & drain through the lines, & as others have detailed crack the fuel injectors/lines & manual bleed the system to remove all the gas then refill with diesel (+lubricant even if it just some added engine oil) bleed throught he lines then prime & try to start - with any luck you haven't done any damage to date.

Glad it worked out OK for you check, and that you were man enough to post the problem on here and to ask for advice. Some guys would be too embarrassed to publicize the mistake. In that vein, your mishap reminded me of a similar issue I had when I was driving a beer delivery truck as a summer job. The distributor had both gas and diesel trucks and you were assigned one or the other with your route each day. One day I had a brain fart and put diesel in a gas truck. Within 2 miles of the terminal, I was blowing smoke and running rough with little power. Let's just say my route took a lot longer to finish that day. I'm afraid to say I drove the truck back to the terminal that evening and never said anything - too embarrassed to let anybody know.

Why change the oil and filter?

Cheap insurance - to offset the risk that you washed gas down the cylinder walls and into the oil.

Even if the sump level seems to be normal, if it was my tractor, I'd just go ahead and change the oil. The filter construction may be able to tolerate some gas contamination, but for he price of a filter, I'd change it too.

Up Nord, the old olde school way to deliberately thin out crankcase oil in old aircraft was to pump fuel in, before you shut it off in the winter. Not something I'd try with a modern engine, even with decent fuel. I can't use the first words that leap to mind concerning the lubricating properties of ethanol compromised gasoline because, well, if I did, I'd get banned from this forum.

I don't know your tractor model specifics - if you have a 10 gallon sump, then at a minimum I'd get oil analysis done. Anything close to a normal sump capacity, I'd just change it.

You dodged a bullet - spend a bit of money giving tribute to Murphy anyway !

Sorry, I had already wrote about changing the filter. I was only thinking of the lines. After draining the tank and filters.
